Hey, I'm new to the forums so please don't chew me out if this thread is somewhere else

I have a 1987 RX7 Base 5spd that I am looking to do an S6 REW swap into. I can get the custom mounts myself but I was wondering if anybody knows of any shops in Orlando, FL that would be able to perform the swap. I would do it myself but I am a full-time student at UTI so I just don't have the time. (Plus my apartment complex would not like an old car town apart and sitting in the lot on jackstands for a month with no engine =D

If anyone has any information on shops or has any information on where I could get a decent complete REW motor and trans, please reply!

Thanks!

We wont scold - this isnt the "other" forum..

I'm not sure of a good shop in FL as I live in VA, but you should be able to source the engine, trans, etc pretty easily. I would actually go with the REW engine, but use T2 drivetrain (thats what I'm using). I like the T2 clutches better and its easier/cheaper to find parts for the driveline when/if things break.

If you search around the forums, ebay, etc you should be able to get a comlete engine w/ harness, etc for under $1500 - I would buy a used setup and tear it down to have it rebuilt before installing it, it'll just save you time in the end.

You can also buy the engine mount adapters from mazdaspeed7 here on the forum....

Im not familiar with the REW motor in any way. Only the T2 so forgive me if I ask a dumb question

How well/easy does the T2 drivetrain bolt up to the REW motor?

And Is it really that cheap to snag a motor? I havn't really seen them for less than 2k. I guess you have to know where to look. I was looking at those mounts Mazdaspeed7 makes a couple days ago and decided to grab a set of those too. Saves me the hassle

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it!

As far as dimensions are concerned, the REW and 13bt motor from the fc are identical. As stated already, I would use the TII transmission and clutch assembly. Its a good bit cheaper. Also, your shifter will be in the stock location, and the stock transmission mount will work. My mounts locate the block in exactly the same position as the 13bt engine.

The differences with the REW motor are improved strength in critical areas of the irons, and the oiling system is considerably improved. The stock REW oiling system is at least as good as the factory race parts available for the earlier motors. The intake runners sit higher, and angle down towards the ports on the REW. This was likely done for packaging reasons.

So basically the REW is stronger than the 13bt? Thats definitely a good thing. Not that I romp on my FC. Well as soon as I can transfer my money from my bank account back in NY to my account in FL I'm going to go engine shopping and I plan on purchasing a set of your mounts. I've seen someone around here who has a T2 shell for sale for 400 but I doubt he has a tranny. I'll check ebay for some deals

I don't really have big plans for it. I just know that my 87 13b NA is long overdue for a rebuild (It just rolled over 100,000 miles yesterday). I don't feel like rebuilding it. If I'm going to spend the money rebuilding it, I might as well go a few steps up and get a motor that is in better shape and has more nut ya know? I realize its a pretty expensive swap but it's something I've wanted to do for a while. I want to pretty much leave the new motor stock. I dont plan on racing it *****-to-the-wall. I want a car I can go autocross with, go to the strip with on weekends, and still retain its daily-driveability. I just moved to Florida a little over a month ago so I'm trying to get settled before I really get into it so I'm trying to do as much research as I can before I actually begin the process.
