The N/A rx7s trans isnt made of glass like most people think. Just a regular trans thats been through 17 years of abuse. Most people never changed their gear oil in those 17+ years.

Best bet would be to have it rebuilt, and keep it maintained.

I had a rebuilt S4 N/A tranny last about 25k km's then fifth started to grind, I had changed the fluid like 3 times too. Could have been a bum rebuild, or crappy parts i guess.

right, sounds like we got that pretty much talked about, as Im sure there are angle to take the subject still.

I want to change the subject since after looking at my starting post I didn't say this. Other than atkins rebuilt engines , what are other companies that are reliable on rebuilds. If you don't what to do it yourself or just don't have the guts to try.

i wonder if they changed the 5th gear synchro? theres a difference between going in there to fix the problem and rebuilding the transmission.

the driver and the health of the cluch hydraulics have a lot to do with this too

Well, I bought the car with a rebuilt tranny, (had the papers to prove it was done by a reputible shop) (Mazdees), it would grind from day one, I bought a tranny off Colin and all was good.
