Hey Guys I will be removing The tranny from my FC in a Few minutes , I never did this job before so I was wondering if you guys have any advice for me, before I just go and jump into it. Is there anything I should do before I start it, anything I should look out for, etc.

P.S - The engine is still installed in the car and wont be coming out with the tranny.

Im greatful for any advice.

Funny... your screen name is 9second7 yet you haven't taken a trans out of one yet. The name is a little misleading.

Why are you taking it out? While it's out check the pilot bearing, make sure it's in top notch shape. If it is bad the trans you will be putting back in there will not last.

Easy explaination, Me and my bro use this member name, My bro has a cym Fd and a gt35/40 kit installed in it , etc, he is a big rx-7 fanatic , as I am his younger bro just getting into rx-7's and Im pullign the tranny out of my 88 vert, to change the clutch, etc.

Here are some useful tips: Put everything in gladlock zip bags as you take it out, and label the bags(this ensures that your not looking for the parts later). Before that make sure that you inspect all of your parts, you should already have a new throw out bearing, clutch, and pressure plate(and while your at it this would be a good time to replace the pilot bearing roller or solid is your preference, I prefer brass IMO). Make sure that you mark the wiring with some tape and a pen. Before the removal you could probably hit all the easy to get to bolts with some pb blaster or wd40, makes your life a whole lot easier. If your putting in a used tranny this is also a good time to check it out to see if its any good. GOOD luck with you project, if you get pissed off remember to hit someone elses car not yours....JK. Have fun.

Hey guys thanks for all the advice, I just pulled out the tranny ( damn this **** is super light). I think this was the easiest job I ever did on a rx-7. Now i just got to install my new clutch and put it back in and I'll be good to go. Thanks for the help, Im still surprised at how light the tranny is , I didnt think i could lift it up and put it over my shoulder to put into my garage, but surprisingly i did it.

my mustang tranny was heavy as sin, had to put a new pump shaft seal in it.

Is it that simple to pop one of those bitches out? Im looking to purchase a 88 gxl, and it needs a clutch..and I've never really been forced to do a clutch job myself.

Ah the mustang.. aka, the slip wrench bash your knuckle into something sharp because everything is so ******* close together you'd think you're wrenching on an import car..

Yo that **** is real simple nothing hard about it at all, It was my first time pulling a tranny out of my FC , Im only 17yrs old and I had no problem with it. **** I used to think removing a alternator was hard, and supposedly removing a tranny is harder , and removing the tranny to me was a piece of cake, so you do the math.
