Well, sorry on never being able to finish anything I start. But this time for good reason. The car is running. It wasn't set in time. I thouhgt that was the problem in the first place. So I had my father help me put it in time. Its not perfect but it is running. I need to take a timing light to it to get it on the money. I've started the engine 4 times and each time I've run it for about 15 to 20 minutes at Idle speed never pushing the rpm needle past 2 at all. I haven't put the car in gear at all though. I attempted to back it up out oc my garage once, and was unsatisfied by the squeall that I heard. My father was there and he said it wasn't a belt, but is sounded like it came from the transmittion. I said well it made the squeall as soon as I engaged the clutch and went away when I took my foot off of the clutch. Although it sounds like a bad throw out bearing, The entire cluch was replaced with a brand new MAzda certified clutch that was put in when the engine was being replaced. Any one else have a similar experience? or do I need to give more info? Lastly does any one believe that there even is a problem? Mind you I am in Orange County New York, where we've been experiencing insane cold weather and snow. Car is in my garage, but do to no cats on car, I push it out each time I start it. This is so that the fumes are outside and not trapped in my basement.

Somebody anybody please let me know if I have or don't have a problem. I will respond to this, now that the car is infact running.

i know when i was fixing my slave i guess some tranny fluid got onto the throw out and made a horrid screaching noise when the clutch was depressed, but i back it out and drove it and when i went to **** into second it was gone, just take it for a quick spin down and back up the driveway

I'll give that a try and see what happens, other than that though you pesonally had no other pressing problems? This is my first rx7, so Im being obviously over questionable about things before I do it. Im sure I'll calm down with all the questions once I get the kinks worked out or someone smacks me across the head, which ever comes first. we'll have to see. thanks for your reply

That's cool that she lives again. Congratulations. That's really cool that your dad is so increadibly knowledgeable in the auto mechanic industry. It's too bad that your friends that were helping you out in the first place were completely clueless. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif It wouldn't surprise me if they put the throw out bearing in backwards. Oh well, at least you have your dad who is so rotary savvy. Good Luck

Well Now Mr.Deficiant and MR.Down I didn't forget about you guys. I know that the both of you's were an important part of the project. And Although the car is running it still needs to have some bugs worked out of it. So in that I would like to request that the 2 gentlemen that helped move this project along, continue to help it along. We (as in Dan Joe and myself) have to adjust the throttle cable, take a timing light to the engine to get in time better, Check for air in the brake lines, make sure the brakes even work, make sure it's not doing anything that it shouldn't be doing and doing everthing it should be doing. So I still need you guys.

And as for my father being "savvy in Rx'7s" Joe, he just read the book and did what it said to do that's all. Don't let that little bit get the best of you, hell I couldn't have broken off pieces of screws into the engine where the heat sheild should be without you. I mean you are the man. You are the person who got the bolts to turn, where I am the man who broke the Air Flow Meter while taking it out.

And now the search for a gen 3 continues for you mr. deficiant, good luck.

ps get one with a running engine, its easier to deal with.

Both yesterday and today I've backed the car out of the garage and pulled it into the garage under it's own power. I let the car idle for 20 minutes at a time each day. The throw out bearring still squeals, but I think it's getting better. I want to take the car down the street https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif , but it's not registered or insured yet, https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif so I'd be taking a huge risk if something stupid were to happen. I think I''m worried more about my brother or father finding out about me driving https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif down the street than getting in an accident or caught by the police. There are no police cars going down the road on a regular basis, but there are my father and braother, making it hard for me to really do much of anything. Sometimes they're just plain mean. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png Oh well Springs coming up soon anyway's so I'll just have to be patient I guess.

PhoenixDownVII 02-01-2005 02:53 PM

I have no beef brett, but don't you think that Joe deserves a bit more than about 4 lunches in return/thanks to the gas he's burned driving all over the place for your car, the weekends lost to fixing an FC he'll rarely see, let alone: Taking out your old engine and putting in the new one.

Heck, thats $1500 labor right there. What ever happend to his "Christmas Bonus" you never gave him? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

I don't need much of a thank-you or money, I know I did a lot but only ONE guy could really work on a part at once really, and most of the time it was Joe. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

I'm glad it runs and had fun feeling up your car's private parts. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I just think credit should be given where credit is due, and haven't seen/read/heard much appreciation to the real fella that put it all togetha (hey that rhymed).

Anyone else reading this (after all, this convo/thread is public) can give their insight on this...if you had a friend basically drop in your new Reman for you...what would you do for them?

Love and Peace. God Bless

Been there done that I spent the night at a place for 5 days straight and worked on my friends car. In the end when it was done and i drove it back to her i was given a 6 pack of smirnoff. Out of that i drank 2 bottles myself, i spent 5 days time and bought wrenches and spring compressors(45.00 on their own) to do some of the work needed. Its kinda how it goes when your the nice guy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

Part of it is the community though. One day maybe he'll do the same for someone else.

The bonus I planned to give joe will come to him. I had always planned to compinsate Joe. I just don't have all the money put together right now but as promised there will be given money payment to Joe. But first I have to get myself treading water financially before I can pay Joe. Im not saying swimming laps, just treading. I say that because at the moment I am doing all I can to keep from sinking, once spring comes and the pains of winter end, I'll have payment for Joe. Maybe even March, if all goes as planned. All in all, I didn't even know that Joe was upset about not being paid yet. I thought he was upset over different issues, not relating to money.

brett vance 02-02-2005 08:30 AM

by the way I went to back the car out of the garage yesterday and the clutch Jamed in nuetral. IT went in to reverse ok, But when I went to put it into first, It wouldn't go no matter what I tryed. I went as far as lifting my foot of the clutch completely, and putting the clutch back down all the way and the shifter wouldn't go into any gear not even back into reverse. Im going to check the fluid levels again. I refilled the Clutch resevoir once already last Thursday. I can only imagine that unless its leaking fluid (which there was no fluids on the cardboard I placed under the vehicle to suggest leaking), it moved the fluid to the areas where needed.

No, you see, I think you're missing the point.

Joe, after doing all this work (And myself even), just don't feel all that appreciated in the work we did. This isn't satisfied by money alone, heck, if you just threw him $1500 and acted the same way you have been, I'd still have something to say.

It's when you'd rather criticize and scruitinize about when joe is coming back up, impatiently, and wonder if, when you give him money toward car parts, if he'll use it for himself...and then come on here and say its running and before saying thanks, you'd rather mention how you and your dad got it running and that it still has small problems.

I guess you're not that great at showing a lot of things, because it was and is; hard to feel appreciated.

But you know what, we're still your friends, which is why we did it despite all the groaning you did, and things you did to further delay this operation.

Again, I state, it's not about money. It can show a bit of "thank you", but I'd sooner rather see it in your attitude and talk of the car. It'd be nice to hear it perhaps from your parents too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

He (Brett Vance) is till in the throws of battle. When all the problems go away then He can step back and show appreciation. I am not defending.... rather suggesting.

Sometimes working on other peoples stuff is gratifying in itself. A person takes the time to learn a skill in the form of a hobby would like to use that skill just to confirm to himself that all he learned was not a fluke. The fact that a persons own motor may not need to be rebuilt and coupled with the fact that that person may not have the money/facility/car to work on, is why someone may go and spend time/money on somebody elses motor.

Gratification comes in many forms.

Gratification comes in many forms.

True that

By the way Brett, I have no beef. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png
