When I bought my '87 NA Rx7, it had one of those rear window covers that are made up of a bunch of horizontal slats to keep direct sunlight out - I'm sure there's a name for those things, but I don't know what it is. I always thought it was kinda ugly, and I finally pulled it off tonight.

My car definitely looks better without it, but it did actually serve a purpose - I park my car in the sun both at work and at home, so having the sun beat down through my rear hatch in the summer is not going to be fun. So, I'd like to tint the thing. I tried the do-it-yourself window tinting film, but I couldn't get it to look perfect, so I scrapped it. Don't get me wrong, I know how to use the stuff, and I used plenty of soapy water, etc, but around the edges of the window, the curvature of the glass just didn't agree with the film. Since I find bad tint jobs completely unacceptable, I'd rather have no tint than a tint job with even a single wrinkle in it, so out it came.

So, anyone have any other ideas? Or know about how much a professional shop would charge to do it?

you just use a razer blade and make relief cuts where the convex in the glass is,,,i would say a tinting, back, sides, and 1/4 of the front from a

place would be around $ 100.00 - $ 140.00 dollors,,i would not pay any more

then $125.00 though and those things are called LOUVERS.

A good shop can do the back window in one piece. When I sold tint at my shop, the guy who did ( and still does all my work ) did them in one piece, alot of other people have to make cuts in the tint, and they usually make it in the defroster, which later on shows up as a seam when it starts to shrink. IN the New York area, if you are somewhat friendly with a shop, you would probably pay around $100, dont go for the cheapest guy you find, there are alot of tricks with tint, one is the tint itself, shops offer lifetime tint warranty, but they sell film that the manufacturer only offers either a 5 year warranty, or no warranty for the real cheap ****. But they figure people wont bring the car back anyhow and they make out by buying the shitty cheap film. You will see that cheap **** turn purple, or start to peel in a year or so. The difference in price on the film is pretty much double, so you can see why these shady guys sell that crap. Another is some of the really busy car stereo shops hire cheap labor to do the tint, which usually means people who arent that expierenced to work on thier own or with a better shop. Same old story- you get what you pay for.

Ive never had this happen, and Ive tinted at least 100 cars, or at least sold tint to those cars. All my own cars are tinted, every car I ever owned was tinted, and I never have any problems.
