If that is the case, then why does schroth make belts that attach to rear seats in some cars on the lower part of the seat, like where the buckle part is that you click your belt into?

because they are in the market to make money. I'm just telling you the way to do it that is the safest. Maybe you'll get lucky and never "need" them.

Here's a "quick fit" but they also make it where you bolt the eye under the seat where the belt itself bolts to.

Didn't you already make a thread asking for seat belts and mounting. I posted an explanation why you should do it the proper way instead of what your friends do.



Maybe you should learn to read carefully before asking the same questions twice.

The information being posted here isnt to inconveinence you its to help you from potentialy injusring yourself. The companys dont care however and are only out to get your money. Take the advice given mount them higher and do this the right way quit trying to find the easy way out.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk or anything and i'm sorry if i am. But if it is bad to mount the harness low why does schroth make a harness that mounts low like in the picture i put up? they are dot approved, if it would highly injure somebody how did it pass?

My friends don't have rx-7's, they have VW's and the mounting point that is recommended actually works in their cars. I'm just getting frusterated because non of the schroth dealers, importer, or schroth themselves in germany know how to mount it in my car, but my car is on their reference list and shows it was tested and works.

I understand everyones points here. If you really want to know, I'd contact Schroth or the DOT or both. I don't see how that is safe, period. Its not rocket science. When its mounted that low, it will pull down on your body instead of just forward. With that much force on our bodies, somethings going to break and most likely it wont be the belt or seat.



It may work as a mounting point in their car but what are the results of a crash? I know what you mean, I had a friend who installed one the same way in his Acura... the belt on a 45 degree angle straight down to the rear seatbelt mount point.

just because a company makes something doesnt mean it works like its intended to...and DOT approval on seat belts probably has more to do with the strength of the belt rather then its mounting locations, i would think.



As for "why do they make ones that mount there"



because they know dumb kids with hondas who want the "race" look without the race car will buy them to look cool...thats there intended purpose when being mounted like that.



I doubt that would pass tech inspection at a dragstrip...ill have to take a peek at the rule book later, but if i recall corectly there's a specific measurement for where the mounts must be attached etc, one of which i think is the height of it relative to the seat.



again i could be wrong but i swore i saw something about it in the handbook.

This may sound crazy, but I would follow the same guidelines that I do for my child's safety seat. Same concept, it's a 5-point harness. They say to never have the should belts lower than the shoulders, they must be even or above the shoulders. I would think child seat manufacturers would have to follow much more stringent guidelines than the racing harness guys.
