Got a question about the racing beat cat back that claims to add 59 horses. Does an exhaust really give that much hp?

1Revvin7 11-30-2002 01:41 AM

well it claims that on the turbo model. It allows the turbo to spool about 4 psi more. more psi will yeild alot more hp, therfore its believeable.

UniqueTII 11-30-2002 01:42 AM

Boost creep is the devil...say it with me.

Ni5mo180SX 11-30-2002 01:51 AM

Well I believe that claim of 59hp is from using their entire turbo back exhaust increasing boost to about 10-11psi. I asked them about this during 7stock and they stood fast to it saying something around "dyno a T2 before and after the turbo back and you'll have your answer". I dont find their claim to hard to believe though. Maybe some T2 owners with the turbo back can chime in........

UniqueTII 11-30-2002 01:54 AM

I bet I can find a lot of them to chime in on how their engines blew after installing that exhaust and an intake. Don't get me wrong...it's one of the best exhausts on the market. It's just that most of them don't expect to have to make fuel mods with it, and then they detonate their engines.

1Revvin7 11-30-2002 01:56 AM

yep most ppl go BOOM! with full exhaust.

UniqueTII 11-30-2002 01:58 AM

A ported wastegate can solve a lot of problems. You still get a lot of the power gain, too....just not the boost creep.

1Revvin7 11-30-2002 02:01 AM

i have to 2 ports for my wastegate https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I never vouched for its ability to work well with a stock fuel system. A friend of mines getting it but has upgraded to 650cc secondaries, Walbro pump and FCD.

1Revvin7 11-30-2002 02:04 AM

650s? why 650s????

I wasn't trying to knock you or anything...I was just saying that a lot of people put them on cars that aren' ready for them.

oh, sorry :bigok: I guess im a little overly defensive coming from the rx7forum https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/blackeye.gif

I get that way too...I'm trying to eliminate unnecessary stress, but then fuckers like you come along!

Just kidding, of course. :bigok:

When I used to work at Racing Beat, I remember the Turbo II full turbo back exhaust as being shipped with an electronic FCD controller. Stock injectors and fuel pump should provide adequate fueling, but the FCD is a must to prevent fuel cut. And yes, it is 59 real hp. I was astounded with the before and after on a friend of mines car.

Turbo II FC 11-30-2002 03:33 AM

Yea I ordered the RB full exhaust a long ass time ago when it came with the fcd. Thank god my **** hasnt blown up yet since I have that, and HKS intake and stock fuel. But it did detonate at one point.

so why don't u throw a fuel pump in there????? takes 20minutes and $100. You're risking your motor.

Geoffman72 11-30-2002 11:08 AM

Yeah, I got the old RB exhaust on my TII basically. I also have no fuel mods save the pump rewire. I have been good about it, its torturing, but I have hit cut a few times https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/blackeye.gif

turborotor 03-04-2003 01:54 PM

I had a magazine that did a dyno test before and after. The yields were true, a lot of hp from just an exhaust. I think i was import tuner.

sandor made 220rwhp @ 8psi on stock turbo

cabe 03-04-2003 01:58 PM

where can one buy this exhaust? also, would i need a bigger fuel pump or bigger injectors as well..?

nice HP gain for the cost, even with buying a new fuel pump!

vosko 03-04-2003 01:59 PM

click the mazdatrix link up top https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Rob x-7 03-04-2003 05:18 PM

you buy the exaust from Racing Beat of course.

cabe 03-04-2003 07:18 PM

i went to RB's site and couldnt find anything on buying it, but ill check mazdatrix!

cabe 03-04-2003 07:29 PM

hey just checkin, but, this RB exhaust doesnt sound like rice does it?

sidewinderx7 03-04-2003 07:30 PM

I use the racingbeat downpipe and custom midpipe. Basically the same as the full racingbeat. 3" to the Y pipe... then its stock... lol i got cheap.

But im boosting around 10-13 depending on what i set it on. But i have no problems. And thats daily driving it. Also, iluvmy88 has the full rb and is running around 14psi daily, hasent had any problems. I also just put in a walbro, but i went without for awhile. No problems. I think alot of people abuse there cars too much and then the motors go pop and they blame it directly on a mod they recently made. Im sure if you are ALWAYS boosting to 15psi on the stock turbo and stock ic, something is bound to blow, thats common sense. From what it looks like, the stock turbo is good for about 15psi max. And i would only say run that with a new ic, and atleast a walbro.

cabe 03-04-2003 09:51 PM

what about w/ a 60-1 compressor wheel?

I've got the RB 3" full exhaust, it sounds way better than stock. My stock exhaust was half rusted out and sounded like ****. After installing the RB exhaust it made it alot quieter. The tone is nice and deep, and in the upper rpm range at full throttle sounds real good, not loud at all. I get boost creep up to 15 psi, but I very rarely hit 15 psi unless I am going balls out in 4th or 5th gear. I have a SAFC, and run it nice and rich at hi throttle in the upper rpm range, plus the greddy FMIC helps out alot. I wouldn't recomend hitting that high of boost unless you have mods to supply enough fuel, and a FMIC to cool that hot 15 psi off.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 03-05-2003 01:29 AM

http://mazdatrix.com/<---- Link to exhaust

Oh yea, I would say it was a 59 hp gain after installing the exhaust. I forgot to add that.

Rotaryman88 03-05-2003 07:44 AM

www.racingbeat.com is where you can get the exhaust.

And I think that you should be OK with stock injectors, but for the love of god upgrade SOMETHING on your fuel systems...it may work just fine with stock, but you gotta remember stock 3pc 2mm apex seals let go with just one ping! At least get an S-AFC to bump the cycle up a lil, and maybe a bigger pump...the stock injectors should be fine.

mazdapower 03-05-2003 09:35 AM

How does the Racing Beat exhaust sound at idol and high rpm's, can you hear the deep rotary sound.

serpent12 03-05-2003 09:56 AM

This might sound stupid, but what's "boost creep" ?? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png

Boost creep is where your wastegate can't bypass enough exhaust around the turbine to hold a set boost pressure. Making it so the boost still rises even though the wastegate is wide open.

unless rb changed the complete system recently...

its absolutely not a full 3 inch system...

just received mine a few weeks ago...

3in only from turbo to the ypipe....

Smart ass!!

If you want to get technical, it is 80mm to the Y pipe, so there!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

Rx7Roadster 03-07-2003 07:32 AM

Boost Creep is caused by your wastegate not being able to expell enough of the air it is compressing and causing the boost to "creep" higher then desired. This happends a lot on the s4 due to the inefficient wastegate design and less so on a s5. This is solved by simply porting the wastegate. Im sure some of the other turbo guys would be able to give a better description then I can.
