a quick favor?

I could really use a favor that would probably take only a minute or two if someone would be so kind to do so. There is a wire coming off the a/c compressor (going to a/c clutch), its black on my car. Well, whoever the genious before me was decided to just "break" that wire. So I've got about 6" of wire coming off the a/c compressor. Can someone follow this wire and tell me where it ends up? I am assuming it goes to a relay somewhere, but I have no idea where or how.



So, cliffnotes...



wire coming off a/c compressor behind the pulley. Where does it go and how does it get there?

Photos would be very helpful.



Its hot here in FL and I'm trying to get an a/c system functioning on this car.

Sounds as though it broke or was pulled apart right at the plug. There should be a single connector at the end of the wire you describe. If I remember correctly there are like 3 plugs out off the wiring harness in the area of the power steering pump and the A/C compressor. Look there for the plug. Try and get a pic later if you can't find it.

First of all, thankyou for your help, someone from rx7club had pointed me in the right direction but I'll give you an update as to where Im at. The clip was still on the wire that runs from under the battery tray towards the compressor. I had no idea where this wire (off the compressor) was supposed to go but after this other wire being mentioned (from under battery tray), I got out my test light and started to see if this was indeed the wire. A/C button off and no action on the light, A/C button on and got continuity. So, this is indeed the wire I needed to connect with. Made a jumper so my broken wire from compressor would connect with this and it did activate the clutch on the compressor. A/C isnt blowing cold so I'm taking it to my buddy who works on A/C systems to run some dye through the system to determine if theres a leak and/or to recharge the system. Here's hoping I get this a/c system fixed before we get real hot here in FL.

A/C isnt blowing cold so I'm taking it to my buddy who works on A/C systems to run some dye through the system to determine if theres a leak and/or to recharge the system. Here's hoping I get this a/c system fixed before we get real hot here in FL.






I hope your friend is good with r12 systems. I've heard r134a conversions on these cars don't usually preform very well. If you do want to do a conversion, then check out Eviro Safe HC refrigerant, or google Freeze-12 for a start. ES is probably what I'll be putting in my system soon. I'm pretty sure there were some good write ups on using HC's in the archives or the net... Found it! Other forum



The HC refrigerants are way better IMO. r134a is just crap. It runs at higher pressures, leaks easier because of its smaller molecules, and still won't cool as well if you do everything right... not to mention its corrosiveness and toxicity. Thanks Dupont, for another sucky product that poisons the earth and humans!

Good deal!

Now the 134 thing, just my experience. The 87 I threw together had a rebuilt compressor on it and the 134 system caps on it. I didn't open the system when I swapped the engine out. Anyway to make long story short, when checking everything out the A/C was on the list to have (in Fl also) put a can of 134 on it (was low car sat 5 years) compressor took off and has been blowing cold for 2 months. Just took it to Ft Myers from Jax and 4 1/2 hrs worked great! coming back. This car doesn't have the electric booster fan my 88 r-12 auto had, so at a stand still its not as good but moving works quite well with the 134.

yeah, I'm not gonna worry so much which refrigerant is in it, as long as it blows cold and keeps blowing cold. Windows are tinted so that will help with radiant heat entering the car. Its up to him to do his part at the moment. I just hope I dont have any "hard parts" that need replacing. I'll update asap.
