Hey guys I own a 1988 Mazda Rx-7 Mildy ported w/ a single racing beat from headers to muffler. My main concern here is if i should reinstall the Air pump... The mechanic who helped with the rebuild about 6k miles ago told me I dont really needed so he cut all the vaccums and canals and only left me with the EGR valve and a few more vaccums. Do u think the Air pump besides making the air cleaner is worth 15 pounds back on the car? If there are any real benifits could you please explain them to me? thank you for all your input.

If you have cats, then the air pump is needed to aid combustion in the cats, if you don't have cats then it's not doing anything for you.

I'd strip the cats off and leave the air pump off personally.

If you don't have cats what are you going to hook the airpump too? The airpump aids combustion to the cats, thats the only function it has, if you have no cats there's no use for the airpump

There is no earthly reason to put the pump back on the car.
