I have 45 pictures, heres a couple..
I grabbed a work truck and picked up an engine hoist at my friend Dave's house, and I finally got the motor out. Took about an hour, going slowly.. All preliminary work was done, just unbolt the engine/tranny mounts, and chain it up.. |

Also when I pulled the driveshaft out yesterday, I noticed some wear (from
debris?) in the machined end that goes in the tranny.. Curious if I should be concerned about it or not.. |
nice more pics
|
heehee, pulling that engine is a bitch the first time. but it speeds up later. and it looks a tad different than my s5. heh
|
Your engine bay looks like it has been on fire.
|
This is the first engine pull I've ever done on an RX7. It went very smoothly and
easily. The engine bay used to be red, but someone did a shitty black paintjob to the whole car, and the engine bay paint they did was even shittier. And it's dusty from sitting for the past 5 months during winter.. |
This is the only forum I'm not afraid to post the before-pictures before the after-pictures.
Next few weeks, you'll see pics of a glossy black engine bay, that's the reason the motor came out. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |

What the hell kind of tranny is that? I dont recall them bieng so smooth.
you didn't pull the engine/trans JUST to paint the engine bay, did you? Well almost.. That was the initial reason, but then I realized it would be a hell of a lot easier to work on the motor with it out.. I'm going to detail the motor as well as install a different clutch/flywheel assembly, reseal the oil pan, install new motor mounts, remove the front cover and replace a few things, and mockup the new manifolds I have to make sure everything can be installed easily when the motor is sitting back in the engine bay.. |

I would be embarrassed to show most of these pics if I wasn't sure it would make for good means of comparison after it's all finished. I mean, come on, you can say it, it won't hurt my feelings, this car as it stands right now, is hideous. So is the motor. But hey I don't expect pristine condition from a 17 year old Canadian car. But the whole thing will be done around May, and it will look gorgeous again. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png |

Maybe the Canadian FC had a different trans. Or that trans is from a 1st gen or a repu.
|
the early na fc tranny's look like that, they get the ribs a little later
|

|
HEY MIKE ITS COLIN DID YOU FIX YOUR CAPSLOCK YET POST PICS!!
I told you, you will see it when it's done. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |
Yeah, if your going to repaint the engine bay, or at least areas that have bad paint.
Use oven cleaner! Heavy Duty "Easy-off" oven cleaner. That stuff will take the overspray paint of with ease, removes dirt if you let it sit there, then just spray it off with a hose... It takes everything off, exept the factory paint, it has always left that for me, but it has taken off the paint on the steering rack... If your still cleaning try it! It makes life alot easier! |
I was thinking of renting a powerwasher to clean and degrease it then wirewheeling the **** out of the engine bay (down to steel).. But I'm not sure. I'll keep your suggestion in mind.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
The engine bay will be painted very soon in polyurethane gloss black. Tough ******* paint. |
Nice... I've always wanted to try rhino lining an engine bay.... Probably be ugly though.
|
Haha..RhinoLining.
I think that would actually be a good idea. But doesn't that stuff go on like a 1/4 inch thick? overall it would probably end up being a big pain in the ass, but who knows. |
You could really kick the **** out of the engine bay and it would still look good though.. But rhinolining is rough and not shiny..
|
Cory while I've got you in my thread, what the hell paint did you use when you painted your TII motor green/gunmetal?
I got some super high temp gunmetal paint, but it's darker than I remember yours being. |
rhino liner would also hurt any grounding that you would need wouldn't it?
|
So does paint, your suppost to scrape the paint off and go down to steel when you place a ground.
|
It was from auto-zone.
It was 500 degree Du-pont paint I think.... I'll have to go look at the can. |
You can do what I am in the process of, I am powderpainting the engine compt of the 89 TII
|
Cory I meant what was the colour name..
John how does that process work? |
It was just gunmetal....
|
Ahh.. My can says "Cast Iron Grey", I didn't see a "Gunmetal" labelled can anywhere. This can I got looks exactly like gunmetal, with metallic flake in the paint too. I was just curious if it's the same stuff you picked up.
|
Dude, what wrong with the 'lock?
as for my car pics, i will post them soon |
Huh?
