If it was the tps would it even idle?
I suggest leave the car on for a while and let it warm up see where the idle drops down to. then screw with tps if it dies, (I had the same problem, but my car would die when i stepped on the gas) it would die if i let my foot off the gas after it warmed up.
Then check the AFM.
If all else fails, try eating the book. That might teach you a few things. (Let me know if it works so i can stop sleeping with book in my pants)

Thanks for the advice... and the humor.
The problem was in fact solved by the book, which told me that the screw that the previous owner had been adjusting and calling the idle adjuster screw, was actually controlling the air getting in, and it was almost totally unscrewed. A few minutes of tweaking got things back in order.
Now I've got this knocking when I'm driving...
The road goes ever onward, and its goin round in circles.
Peace
Joel

If you dont have the factory service manual you can download
it here : http://fc3s.org/
As for the people pumping the gas peddal like crazy, to try
in get it sarted. WRONG !!! That is definatley the wrong
thing to do with these engines, You will flood it real fast
and then getting it unflooded is a rather pain in the ***.
I know cause with my wife's 87 (NA) if you even touch the
peddal before you start it the damned thing floods.
