Please Some1 Help!

I have 2 mazda RX7 one is an 86 Gxl and the other one is an 87 the base model i guess (SE). The motor went bad in the 87 one so i got the gxl with a bad trany but its got a new motor (only 40K). So i decided to do an engine swap. First i didnt know if the Gxl engine would work on a base model. Anyways i did the engine swap and i put everything together the right way but its not working. It turnes over but it doesnt start (a mechanic said that its got no spark) Its been in the shop for more than 7 months and noone can figure out whats wrong. If anyone there has the same problem or knows how to fix it please let me know. I really want to drive my RX7 again. Thank you.

Well, if they tested for spark and it has none, than that is definitely a problem. Do you get fuel? Make sure you get that.
Test the coils per the FSM pages I have on my site. You can also test them by having the key on the "ON" position and then splicing into the pink wire to the leading coil and touching it to ground very quickly. That will trigger the coil. If you get nothing and the TAN wire has 12V, then the coil is dead. Find a different one If it DOES spark, then the ECU is not telling it to spark. Check the CAS, grounds, etc..

If it has no spark they you have some sort of ignition issue. Could be coil packs, but would be unlikely that both are junk. Could be ECU, could be something as simple as fuse, it seems odd that a legit shop would not be able to diagnose it.
