Ok, the other day 5th gear started popping out so I decided to take it to the tranny shop and see what they have to say and possible just get it rebuilt. Well I went to work and asked my friend if he could drive it to the shop for me and see what they say but he called me up and told me that he was backing out of his driveway and when he went to put it back in first, it wouldn't do anything...

We got it towed back to my house and I took a look at it, the shifter is extremely sloppy but it was that way before, I had bought shifter bushings but I don't think I got all the ones I need, and when it's in "neutral" it's really in Reverse and when you try to put it in 1st or 2nd the car just gets bogged down like the gears are getting stuck. There is no 3rd, 4th, 5th, or reverse, it's almost like there is a wall there.

Can anyone help me!? I kinda depended on this car to go to work with and I really don't have the money anymore to get the Tranny rebuilt. Is there an easy fix or is the tranny just toast?

i had that problem on my '86, my shifter is extremely sloppy and when i took the shifter out there was no bushing in there... but it still shifted ok, just sloppy, then it wouldnt go into reverse... like there was a wall... so i had a stg 3 clutch so i put it in to see if it would help... nothing. so then i got under the car and noticed my neutral safety switch on my trans was messed up... so i replaced it and its good to go now
