JUst come to Jim's house of rotors. We have it all. :P
i could drive the motor to your house in the van and we could rebuild and port it there...... interesting. i'm gonna see if mazdacomp will let me signup. so i can try and buy the factory parts at much discount https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
I think you just have to have some results from a few races to get the discount. I MAY be starting a new job soon. So if that's the case then I'll only be able to work on my car during the weekend, as opposed to every day. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Right now I'm having some weird problem with my T-78. It's making full boost at about 5000-5500 instead of 4000-4500. I think it may be my wastegate. I'm probably going to get a Garrett T-76 for a future 20B, but I thought about trying it out on my motor. I think it wouldn't spool up until 10K.
40psi of boost at 10,000 rpm isn't that bad https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif
This calls for laughing gas. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

the best way to learn is to take the car apart.... my first rx7 was a 88 SE with 200k miles that i bought for $200. had a stuck apex seal. got it unstuck and drove around my block @ 5 MPH  afterwards pulled the engine out. i learned a ton doing that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png just can't wait to have running cars again https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Yuppers, but that's where my quandry comes in:

The blue car runs, but has 185k on the clock

The red car does not run (aka the red hoover) but only has 165k on the clock and is said to have had a new motor at some point. Compression is 14.5 on all chambers, both rotors as I recall reading from the Mazda dealership.

So do I want to tear down the red cars engine? Or the blue car? Or do I want to wait till the blue car goes? Is the red car's engine REALLY good?! Do I REALLY WANT TO SWAP ENGINES!?

Must...have..running....7.....

14.5? What units?

Whatever it is they use in the Mazda book, kilopascals I think but don't quote me on that I'm not looking at the sheet. I remember noting that it was in spec...

While I'm babling the 89+ 2nd gen gets more HP out of the motor. I know it's partially due to the intake manifold and air flow sensor being adjusted but what else was done? I'm sure I could sort it out and look it up, but why when the fountain of knoweldge is sitting right here?

Oh yeah, and at what RPM would you consider a rotary to be lugged?

treceb 05-16-2002 01:29 PM

Ya, I finally had sometime to work on mines. I might be going at this backwards but its coming along. The first afternoon I worked on it, I only removed the fan, shroud, afm and hose, altenator, battery. i think thats all. A month later, I got the UIM, and the injectors with a bunch of hoses. Today I might tackle the AC compressor and the P/S pump. Im running out of storage since we fixed the celica. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

My room is full of VW crap, my rx7 is full of rotary crap, the garage, well its full of crap period, basement is untouchable. what to do, what to do.

more hp is due to higher compression and better breathing. i dont own a second gen, but i dont think the injectors were changed.

S5 has better turbo, better manifold, more boost stock

And the rotors were lighter weight.

ok first problems

one) can't get front oil cooler hose off! what size wrenches do i need https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

two) i was trying to undo the ps/ac bracket to get it out of the way. one of the bolts won't move and you can only fit an open wrench in there so it keeps slipping off

those are my only problems so far https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

took off the fuel rails today, took off the fan, shroud

still have to take off the ps/ac bracket and or pumps, motor mounts, tranny bolts, downpipe, that's about it then engine is ready to remove ! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Which oil cooler line? The 3 banjo bolts are 22 mm. The one on the front cover is annoying because it's a little too narrow to get a normal wrench on there. Sometimes you can use a pair of vise grips on it.
