The exaust is 2.5 inch, and yes I meant non-turbo. I would just get whatever you feel good with, although the price of changing from a 2.5 inch to a 3" is probably the least of the cost of the engine mods you talk about lol. I was going to post a good pic of the exaust, but I cant figure out how to with this new board! They did some job on the y-pipe .[QUOTE] I want to put 3" piping only for downpipe to the high flow cat because I'm planning to go for a street port on my next project while rebuilding the engine.[QUOTE]

Right now I still have the 2 pre-converters but I emptied them last year. So I thought while I'm changing for downpipe why not to put a 3" since I want to port later. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Has anyone passed their emissions without a Air Pump?

Never tried. Why do you not have enough room for your air pump?

dac 05-19-2002 01:33 AM

I've heard the air pump is required to pass, but most of this info comes from the 3rd gen world. I have a N/A with no Air Pump on it and wondering if I could try to sneak it through. I don't think my motor will pass no matter what I try.

88 13B N/A with a Header, No Cat, EGR Removed, ACV Removed, Haltech E6K. Think it would pass?

If I can't get it to pass I will have to register it out of the area.

Nope, I don't think you'll pass. In Washington, if you fail, you get to go through the next time for free. It might be the same down there in Oregon. If it is, try taking it through, you might pass. Do you still have all of your emissions stuff to put back on the car if you fail?

If you pass with rotary engine without anything on it, I don't see why they spend money and time testing cars. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png I would say the minimum is a high flow cat and maybe EGR valve. For visual the air pump is the next.

I was gonna take it to a shop and pay the $50 or whatever for some emission sniffer time. I was hoping I could lean it out or whatever is needed with the Haltech.

But I think this is unrealistic. I think I will need to put some crap back on my motor. I would put a RacingBeat Cat on my motor if this would make me pass. But I'm not willing to change out the header, ACV, EGR.

In Oregon it's a roller Dyno to pass and you can try as many times as you'd like. The thing is the DEQ area is in the Portland area and surounding area's only. So if I were to say... move outside the area, no more testing. Kinda lame, but this is not my everyday driver.

Does anyone know what rear gears came in a 88 RX7? (I think 4.10's)

My vehcile has 5.13's which I think will be great for 0-60 (If I'd ever test it), but it seems like I really have to shift out of 1st and 2nd gear pretty quickly when I get on it. So I have found some 4.30 rear gears, but that's as tall as I can go. My 60 MPH RPM is 3100, The 4:30's should drop me to 2500. I figure that might help with the emission tests also.

I'm only going to try once.... unless I am close.

Thanks for your posts

I think you'll have to put on the ACV, air pump, and EGR. I took my car through emissions testing with no cats, no air pump, no ACV, and I failed. Then I put on the stock exhaust, ACV, and air pump and passed.

The 4.10 ws standard on most rx7s, automatics and S4 convertibles have 3.909, the GTUs had a 4.30, and I've heard that some S4 GTU have a 4.30.

Are you using the stock rx7 tranny? If you are get a short shifter kit for it, that will help you shift quicker.

So in your emissions tests, do they test your exhaust at a given speed, or rpm?

dac 05-19-2002 05:54 PM

Yes I am using the Stock Tranny. I had to modify the stock RX7 shifter as it was way too short. I cut down both shifters and welded them together in order to get it at the correct height.

The emissions testing they do is a series of simulated hills. They drive over them keeping the RPM matched to the hill. If it passes they will do just 1 or 2 hills. If it doesn't pass they will continue for 4 hills before they give you the FAIL slip.
