Overheating
Ok so here is the downlow.
Car overheats awhile back after constantly chasing what causes the annoying buzzer.
When it overheated I replaced the waterpump and thermostat.
Car ran fine for a few days then that damn buzzer starts again. Also the overflow tank filled up. Weird sh*t.
Today though the car overheats again. Nothing insane just went to about the halfway mark on the stock gauge (87 T2 btw).
Thing is that when I was under there I pulled the cap and tube from the overflow tank (to save on coolant being pushed out by steam) and let it vent, then I start to look at the area where the thermostat is and tap the filler cap with my knuckle (not hard even).
When I did this all the steaming and blowing stopped. I mean instantly. Goes from carpet cleaner jets to nothing with 2 taps on the cap.
Does it sound like my rad cap is messed up or what? Its obviouse to me its the cap since thats what I tapped and the thermostat is brand new but I need some opinions. Ive been surprised a few times from something seeming obviouse then being something totally different.
Any ideas will be appreciated

Overheating is a common problem with rotary motors. there could be meany causes.
1. coolant leak. a ccolant leat will prevent the coolant system to mantain pressure pushing out coolant leading to overheating and water loose.
soulution: Go to a local auto parts store (AUTOZONE, NAPA) they should have a coolant pressure tester for use. its will increase your coolant pressure at a stand still and the problem can be found. tester
2. bad radoator cap. the springs wears and it may not hold the preasure leading to bypass to overflow tank.
solution: the same tester can be flip around on to the cap to see what pressure it can hold.
3.air pocket in coolant. this does happen.
solution: mityvac this will suck out all the air in your system. harbor firght has a cheaper version of this tool
4. engine water jacket leak. BAD NEWS use the pressure test on the coolant system if it can not hold a semi constant preasure that mean that the coolant is going into the cumbustion chamber itself. signs of this problem are hard starts. smoky(white smoke) starts. smell of radiator fluid in exhaust. and overpreasure of coolant due to exhuast gases being forced into cooling system.
good luck
