what should i tell them to look for??

Shane.Trammell 03-17-2003 10:52 AM

i dont really expect them to know anything

Shane.Trammell 03-17-2003 10:58 AM

is it just gonna be like a ground wire hanging out or what?

BTW, be careful with that oil pressure wire... on my S4 GXL the oil pressure connector had no insulator, and managed to fall off of the sending unit. Driving along I see my oil pressure shoot passed both extremes going back and forth... Somewhat panicing, I look under the hood and find the connector was resting on the engine... After I put it back on the sending unit, the gauge always at 0 (off) was below 0 and when it was supposed to show 30 it would show 0, 60 would show ~30 etc. it shifted the needle on it's shaft when it tried turning it passed it's extreme.... since there are stops that will keep the needle from going too far, but the static friction between the needle and the shaft is not very much.

Just a heads up, but other S4's I've seen have an insulator on the connector so mine just sucks... not sure if it was originally like that. Fortunately I was able to take apart the gauge cluster and shift the needle back into position, it seems ot be ok now.

the trailing coil is the one next to the brake master cylinder. step 1 is to make sure its plugged in, step 2 would be to unplug it (there are 2 round white connectors), make sure all the pins are in the plugs and that theres no corrosion or any thing wierd going on. plug it back in clear the codes and see if it comes back

ok i will check that out.

Shane.Trammell 03-19-2003 10:53 PM

ok the prob is getting worse. the tach dies more frequently now and sometimes its hard to start. it will be cranking really slow and then all of a sudden it will start turning over stronger and more quickly and will start. it kind of seems like when the starter went out before but now theres now smoke from the starter. any help would be great guys. also how exactly does the tach work? what is the exact path to follow for it and all of that?
