So, i've been reading, trying to avoid asking the same questions as other people, i have an 88 gtu, which currently has no spark. i've checked the plugs, plug wires, cas, and the coils...all seem to check out alright...from what i've read the only other possibility is the ecu...is that a correct thought? or should i look at something else?

signal chain goes like this:

cas sends its 2 signals to the ecu, which then decodes the signals, and outputs a spark signal.

the other piece is the main relay which powers the coils.

so for example on the leading coil the one wire is 12v power, the other is signal.

cas is easy to check, i have seen a couple bad connectors though, CAS tests good, and is good, but signal..... believe it or not, we got stuck once, and i spit on the connector, and it worked, so the car ran for a little while. didnt have to go far, which is good cause it got pretty gross

with the key on, you should have 12v at the black wire on the coils

so, i think i've narrowed it down to the ecu. the coils checked out fine, the relay is closing and i have 12 vdc at the coils from the battery, through the main relay...but i don't think i'm getting a signal from the ecu to the coils...thanks for your help

my 86 n/a is not getting spark either. the little black wire coming off the harness at the coils is getting power but nothing is coming out of the leading coil so i bought that. when it gets here ill let you know if it fixes it
