need help going to kill it
Ok just so you know i never owned a rx-7, i always wanted one know i got it and i think i bite off more than i can chew. I am mainly a honda man so im learning here, i got this car its a 88 turbo 2, the guy i got it off of said it ran before he parked it for about 6 months, he also said it only ran on the leading coil pack, ok i got it home put a battery in it and changed the oil plugs and wires. tried to start it nothing you can smell gas, i thoguht i flooded it so i did that three step unflodding deal still wont, pulled the wire off the plug and seen if there was a spark (off the leading pack) and nothing nor the trailing, if the coil packs are bad i was wanting to know if i could use msd coils to replace them, but i am not sure how to use them one the leading coil pack because it looks to be one coil with 2 plug wires coming out of them??????? please help
dont replace the coils with an upgrade until you find out whats wrong with the stock coils first. start simple, check the egi fuse, which controls both of the coils, although i dont think youd smell gas if it were good, check it anyway. check the grounds, the ecu switches ground on the coils, and if it isnt getting a good ground, it wont spark adequately. the ecu ground is ontop of the engine, the main engine ground is down around the starter.
and check the coil connectors, and wires.

thanks guys for your help, the fuse box under the hood has spots for 7 fuses ans starting with the fuse closest to the power steering pump calling it number one the fifth fuse slot has a fuse missing its there suppose to be one or is it left empty
As 1revvin7 said here is the rest of the puzzle.
Get a Haynes manual.
Items responsible for EFI controls.
Main relay
CAS
ECU
EGI INJ fuse
If you are getting fuel and 12v at the coil do the following
OHM out the coil pack per Haynes Manuel. If coil checks out you have a bad ECU. If coil does not check out you have a bad coil. They rarely fail.
Both the Injectors and Coils excite via switching ground fed from the ECU. The ECU gets its signal from the CAS.
