I wrote the 'I Need A DVD' thread. I got the car running (though I have No idea how) and it starts up every time now, but new problems have come up, and I need help. One of them is my brakes. I just put a new master cylinder in, I bench bled the master cylinder and the proportionate valve and all 4 corners like 10 times, no air in the lines anymore, but there is still no pedal. anyone know why? Next is, the car doesn't like to idle in gear with the brakes on, such as at a stop light. And last is, it is a A/T - witch is getting switched out for a manual when I get the money - anyway the trans doesn't like to switch to the last gear or over drive without a little help from me tapping the gas pedal. Oh I almost forgot, the car does not go over 70mph like it is governed. Anyone have some answers for me?

in regards to your nonidling/when using brakes issue that seems to me to be a brake booster issue.-maybe a leak or just a bad booster? check the air hose that runs from your intake manifold to the metal piping which runs across for the booster..this air line loves to crack a lot and i have replaced them many times on fc's

car can't go over 70 like it's governed? sounds like possible an exhaust/catalytic converter issue, although you said you have an automatic tranny which i know nothing about so who knows-could it be that?, had a customer once with similar symptoms and it was a crushed converter which crumbled and was blocking flow allowing the car to drive albeit slower than usual.-

 

So you think the brakes are bad i meen the whole no pedal part because my booster has a leek? thats what i was thinking but i don't know how to check for leaks. can you tell me how?

You should get pressure without the booster, in fact i usually bleed them without the booster, you still build pressure it's just a little harder. What happened when you bled the lines? How did you bleed them without getting any pressure? did fluid fly out of the bleeders or did it just dribble? you sure you got all the air out?

 

Did you bench bleed the cylinder prior to installing it? Sounds like you didnt

Is the vacuum check valve installed?

 

In what order did you bleed the system?



If I remember right the order is as such



front of car.

2----1



back of car





If you did not do it in this manner then you migth still have air in the system.



I would also check the booster for leaks as it sounds like there is one.
