take the hose off the airpump, and put the filter right on the airpump.

will look a lil less ghetto. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

i would but..... the breather hose thing is not big enough... plus i like how it is maybe i'll find a crome thingy and make that hose crome... but it doesn't touch the AFM and it looks really cool

Apex13B 09-22-2003 09:21 PM

is the AFM just lying there? i cant see any brackets

MazdaEnthused 09-22-2003 09:42 PM

there was no brakets it was just stabilized with the bots from the OEM intake set up

Apex13B 09-22-2003 10:25 PM

you need to make brackets that Afm is expensive

I took mine off due to heat soak, engine usually started to detonate up inclines doing 65 in 85 deg heat. Ya need to put a cold air box on there if you live in a warm climate.

MazdaEnthused 09-23-2003 01:21 PM

well now its not so hot anymore but how am i supose to make brakets? the AFM isn't moving anywhere... the filter is somwhat wedged in between somthing so its really doesn't move at all

MazdaEnthused 09-24-2003 01:39 PM

what does the AFM do anyway?

Several things.

It determines how much air is being pulled into the engine, then sends a signal to the ECU, basically defining the engine speed.

Also, if it ever closes (meaning, the rotors stop spinning and there is no air being pulled) it kills the fuel pump, because it assumes that the engine has died.

They need to be mounted as close to horizontal as possible, otherwise gravity will pull on the flapper door weird, and the registered airspeed will be different that what the engine needs.

They are VERY expensive (something like $250 from Madzatrix). The 1980s era Jap cars often use the same looking AFM, but the internal electronics varies even among identical looking units. My 88 Toyota 4Runner has one that is basically exactly the same as the Seven's, but the output voltage/resistance is different.
