First off, I wouldn't swap out to lexan/etc rear hatch lid. First, it's illegal in most states, and two..the FC isn't heavy enough in the rear IMHO for drag racing/straightline speed. If you want to save a few pounds there but not lose too much, swap the rear glass for an SE/Base hatch lid...they weigh less. (no rear wiper/control box). I had an SE to start with

More weight reduction methods:

- remove all tar from under the carpet, especially the hatch area

- remove storage bins

- remove any wiring/brackets that you don't need/want

- get new seats (stockers weigh anywhere from 18lbs to about 40lbs depending on year/make/model/etc) - a good aftermarket light bucket seat to replace the driver/passenger should save you about 20lbs or more.

- relocate battery to inside cabin behind driver/passenger seat (doesn't save weight, just places it better)

- lighter steering wheel (sounds small, but all the little stuff adds up)

- remove any heavy stereo equipment (i removed all radio equipment/wiring harness, but i race..so i didnt need any of it)

- remove air conditioning and condensor(lines, etc)

- remove power steering

- remove the rack that both of those were attached to

- get aftermarket exhaust (single exit exhaust will save a few pounds here)

- lightweight wheels

- remove any brackets you don't need from engine bay

- remove all emissions/wiring/brackets from engine you dont want

For extreme measures(racing only):

- remove all carpet/interior panels

- replace doors w/ fiberglass ones

- replace front fenders w/ fg ones (stockers only weigh about 8lbs, and most fg ones weight about 5.5..so there isnt much to save here, but it does add up)

- go ahead and use the lexan rear hatch

Most of the time when you are building a track car, and you remove all this stuff, a lot of weight goes back in w/ the rollcage/fuel setup/turbos/intercoolers/etc... but at least it helps offset some weight.. I hope that helps you get started.

Places for fiberglass parts would be corksport.com, re amemiya, and anthony woodford racing(www.awrracing.com)...some stuff isn't always listed, so you'll need to email/call these guys to get what you want.
