I think ford is doing this on the new lightning or something. One of there supercharged vehicles anyway.

 

I noticed that most of the people arguing that it would work are NA guys. When I had the stock IC, and went for a hard drive on a cool night, the IC would be almost too hot to touch. At lower speeds the scoop works ok, but it is quite usless at higher speeds. I think the scoop is more for looks, than function. Don't you think that if the scoop flowed massive amounts of air the FDs would have a hood scoop and the IC mounted where it is on the FC.

 

This is the reason why all radiators/oil/trans coolers are mounted front and center on nearly all autos. It just makes sense to install the intercooler there. Its all about cool air, that and the number of rows on specific cooling systems.

 

Mazda likes to place thier IC on top of the engine. The mx-6 had a top mount ic. the turbo charged 2.5l subaru has a top mount ic. But I would have to agree that front mount ic's are ideal and are more efficient.

The reason why Manufactureersaaeeeeers use top mounted IC's the what i call the "******* driving unit" factor. A front mounted IC would not last long if you smash the front end going into a driveway, Enjoy tailgating trucks filled with gravel, or have VERY large bugs in your place or high speed driving. It also inhibits air from flowing past the rad slighty, which is not good. You have to remember that all cars are engineered for any ******* to drive, not just enthusiats to drive
