My plans are to mount the IC in front which leaves the Hood scoop empty. This gave me an idea. How about making the intake suck the air from under the hood scoop and seal it so it only takes fresh air.

Has anyone ever done this before and possibly have written a write-up? That would take a little time off the install. Are there any drawbacks from doing this at all that i should consider before doing this?



There already is a cone filter on the intake replacing the stock filter which takes in the hot engine air so this seems like a logical improvment.

something to consider is getting a bypass valve for water or rain...

but since air exits the scoop then i dunno unless you mount really far up not just under the scoop coming right by your engine.

a commercial size freezer inside the engine bay, just put the intake right in that sucker...VRRROOM. Ok, so maybe that isnt the brightest idea, but it would be cool? EH? EH?

if it exits the hood scoop, why isn't the scoop facing the other way? that does not seem logical, i understand that there is a negative pressure differential on top of the hood, but by putting the hood scoop facing the incoming air flow, it just seems like you would add interference and impede the air flow. also, by drawing air in through the engine, it also seems like you will be sucking hot air through the intercooler, rather than cool fresh air.



i'm doubting yall's assesment of this cooling system.

OK this might sound really stupid or really smart... but i'm thinking this would be the ultimate "Cold Air Intake" if it worked





running A/C lines inside the intake as coils?? or would it be better to have them in the intercooler??

I would have to agree. It would be quite impossible for air to exit the hood scoop while the car is in motion. Does anyone remember the "Ram Air" cars of the '70's?



Look at it this way, Mazda put the intercooler under the scoop for airflow. The cooler the air through the IC, the more horsepower you will make. For the (HOT) air to come up from the motor, then go through the IC and out the hood scoop would be counterproductive, if it was possible at all. BTW - I think the placement of the stock IC is stupid, why put the IC on top of a hot motor???



Even if you could move your intake to the hood scope, it's really not a good option. It would be better for you to pipe it down into your front grill. I've seen someone who has posted a "How To" on thier web site, but I can't find it right now. I'll post it when I do.

well, if anything........ a scoop...... scoops air in, no point in having it face front if it doesnt scoop air.....



so i think if you make the proper ducts that would be a good idea........ but doesnt FC's have a duct coming from the front bumper already for the intake?
