A breaker bar should fit under there. 2 bolts and the starter is out.

I would check to make sure the engine will turn over by hand...

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 07:48 PM

turn over by hand what do you mean?

Twin89Stangs 07-21-2002 08:16 PM

what about the starter solenoid?

Otherwise take it off and run it up to a parts store to be checked....

phinsup 07-21-2002 08:33 PM

My guess is the clicking he is hearing is the solenoid....

push start it!

You can also try jumping the starter its self. just put pos. to pos. neg to neg. and see what happens. On the 89 chassis its a shorty bolt on the lower right of the starter, and a long bolt coming from the engine compartment with a nut on the tranny side(upper left starter bolt). If you wedge a wrench on the bolt side and let it turn aginst the engine block, you can crank the **** out of it from the tranny side.

hahaha well, theres not much room under there. i dont know if a breaker bar would fit or an airgun. if i can get that bad boy off i will get it checked out.

If you use long extensions it should fit. One way to do it with a regular wrench is to bang the wrench with a hammer.

Yeah, you would have to push that fu@ker forever! ROFLMAO.

A 12 point, 14mm socket w/ a breaker bar should do it, after you have snugged up the wrench against the block, on the engine compartment side. The nut should come off the tranny side with ease and leave you with no nuckle busters
