My car wont start. i think its the starter, but i dont know. THe battery has charge the alternator is fine the fuses are good. When i turn the key it just clicks once and stops. I tried to jump it and that didnt work. Everything else has power so i dont know. Where is the starter? I couldnt find it to see if it had a good connection. What do you guys think?? Its an automatic.

horn4858 07-21-2002 04:37 PM

maybe the ground that connects to starter its connected to long bolt that goes allway through it.

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 04:48 PM

where is the starter at on the car

horn4858 07-21-2002 04:51 PM

left rear of engine under car https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/mellow.png

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 04:52 PM

thanks man. so what about the bolt??

horn4858 07-21-2002 04:54 PM

tap on starter while u have it in crank position

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 04:54 PM

ill try that

horn4858 07-21-2002 04:55 PM

sounds like a bad connection or starter

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 04:58 PM

i hope so man

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 05:09 PM

Driver's side.

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 05:13 PM

thanks. im gonna go try to fix it. do you think that i will be able to ??

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 06:45 PM

ok i tried. it didnt work. i tried to get the whole starter off but the bolts were too tight for my little muscles!! i checked to see if it was getting power and it was. i dont know what should i do now?

phinsup 07-21-2002 06:53 PM

Crank harder, take it off, take it to the local parts store they can test it.

13BAce 07-21-2002 07:00 PM

Use a long breaker bar...wuss. :P

phinsup 07-21-2002 07:05 PM

Yea I keep my breaker bars in the tool box... that is what airtools are for LOL

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 07:08 PM

hahaha well, theres not much room under there. i dont know if a breaker bar would fit or an airgun. if i can get that bad boy off i will get it checked out.

phinsup 07-21-2002 07:12 PM

Jack it up, pretty much anytime you gotta do something on the underside you are jacking.

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 07:14 PM

i did jack it up. there still isnt much room.

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 07:31 PM

i guess ill try to get it again. ill work out a little and get my biceps pumpin, maybe that will help

dac 07-21-2002 07:42 PM

A breaker bar should fit under there. 2 bolts and the starter is out.

I would check to make sure the engine will turn over by hand...

Shane.Trammell 07-21-2002 07:48 PM

turn over by hand what do you mean?

Twin89Stangs 07-21-2002 08:16 PM

what about the starter solenoid?

Otherwise take it off and run it up to a parts store to be checked....

phinsup 07-21-2002 08:33 PM

My guess is the clicking he is hearing is the solenoid....

DCmina 07-21-2002 08:35 PM

push start it!

89 Rag 07-21-2002 09:10 PM

You can also try jumping the starter its self. just put pos. to pos. neg to neg. and see what happens. On the 89 chassis its a shorty bolt on the lower right of the starter, and a long bolt coming from the engine compartment with a nut on the tranny side(upper left starter bolt). If you wedge a wrench on the bolt side and let it turn aginst the engine block, you can crank the **** out of it from the tranny side.

If you use long extensions it should fit. One way to do it with a regular wrench is to bang the wrench with a hammer.

Yeah, you would have to push that fu@ker forever! ROFLMAO.

A 12 point, 14mm socket w/ a breaker bar should do it, after you have snugged up the wrench against the block, on the engine compartment side. The nut should come off the tranny side with ease and leave you with no nuckle busters

you can do it mario lopez

Shane.Trammell 07-22-2002 01:01 PM

i think that i could pull it better. i will just hook up a rope to my tow hook and start running. If i never come in here anymore its because i died trying to start the car when it was 105 degrees outside.

Shane.Trammell 07-22-2002 01:39 PM

ok i ordered the solenoid. How hard will this be to put on with the starter off of the car.

Shane.Trammell 07-22-2002 08:57 PM

ok i got the starter off that was fun

89 Rag 07-22-2002 09:15 PM

its kind of a bitch huh. You must remember the rx-7 was engineered buy little asian ppl. I think 4 or 5 can fit under the hood without touching each other. LOL

Shane.Trammell 07-22-2002 09:37 PM

that clears a lot of stuff up! Maybe i should find some of those peeps to put this thing back on!

evilT2 07-22-2002 10:34 PM

nah, just get some trained monkeys to do it

You should be able to grab the belts or put a wrench on the alt pulley and turn the motor over.

Shane.Trammell 07-23-2002 09:13 AM

oh ok i see

Shane.Trammell 07-23-2002 01:14 PM

would it be better to take off the brace that is bolted up between the frame that kind of goes under the starter?
