Before I got my headers on, of corse I bent the top left stud when I was trying to get the rusty old exhaust manifold off, so I bent it back kinda. :madgo: I slipped the new headers around my nice bent stud, and put the bolts back on, turned them tight and I guess from bending it back and tighting the bolt a bit to tight, The ******* stud comes falling out with aluminum on the threads!! :director: :newburn:

So now I'm pissed and stuck on what to do, I need help. :repuke:

I was thing of somehow retaping the hole, but I don't know if it will able to be done w/o ******* up the coolent area. Another tought is to get another engine.

Try getting a tap with the same threads as an exhaust manifold stud and just run it through the hole. That should get it back to normal if you didn't mess it up too badly.

There is no metal left to thread it as the same size. I guess I could go abit bigger than the origanal hole, but how much bigger could I go???

Do you know the stud size??

I would have to check tomorrow morning. If you bring the stud to Pep Boys you should be able to find one. Tapping the hole with a slightly larger tap would be ok.

Otherwise do the heli coil... I think that is what they are called. You drill and thread a bigger hole, then you thread replacements in and use the same size stud...

You can try a helicoil, but be SURE not to over-tighten the stud or nut. If that doesn't work lt me know and I'll go to my work and look at a tap chart and let you know what size metric tap you need to get.

Edit: I just found this. Guess I won't have to go to my work. :thumbs-up:

Helicoil will work just fine, just make sure you be carefull putting it in and do NOT overtighten it. Also don't go to nuts with the cement they give you for the coil if they do give it.

I've done this more times then I can count with VW heads as they are notorious for having the sparkplugs strip as they come out. Plus I've sheered off a few studs here and there too, be thankfull it just came out and you don't have to take it to a machine shop to have it pulled.

If you DO ever sheer off a stud, try a pair of cobra grip pliers, you'd be STUNNED at what those suckers can get a hold of.

I'm also real fond of my snap on (blue point) extractor set. Never broke one off unlike an EZ-OUT.

Yep. You may have to re-drill the hole (deending on the size of it), and then run a tap down the hole. Then you need to put in the thread insert (helicoil). There may or may not be some glue/cement to hold the insert in the hole. Then there si s special tool for screwing in the insert. And after the insert is in there is a little tab you need to break off. I used to have to install tons of helicoils in some parts at my work.
