How Do You Tests Stock Clutch Fan.

Check the hub for signs of leakage, I believe they use some sort of silicone fluid. And make sure the fan is spinning rapidly with the engine hot and idling. If its old, and you suspect it may be not be 100%, just replace it.

[quote name='Baldy' date='Jun 30 2005, 02:58 PM']As stupid as it sounds, I remember someone saying that if you can stop it at idle, it's still good. Any merit to that? I've stuck a wrench handle in mind at idle, it stops no problem.

This does sound stupid, no offense.

I realize that, that's why I said it sounded stupid.
I'm just trying to get the correct method out of someone. I know that's not the correct way to do it, so how do you know if it's working correctly?

I was just being agreeable!
I guess the "right" way to check it would be to somehow put a tach on it and check the rpm with the engine hot and idling. Not sure what the rpm should be, but I guess it should be pretty close to the engine speed.

Here's a nifty little toy. Just $195.
The HHT-1500 Series is an accurate economical, non-contact optical digital tachometer. All units come complete with reflective tape and carrying case. An optional contact adaptor, HHT-1502CA is easy to attach and converts the unit to mechanical measurement. Users affix a tape on the shaft to be measured. The tachometer measures the time between reflected pulses of light and calculates the RPM.
Neat, huh?
