i tried a 5 or 6 footer, it was useless, but i doubled it up to a 12 footer that i had lying around (don't ask) and it came off w/just one hand. The difference in leverage w/doubling the length was outstanding. I would have used a gun, i just didn't own a compressor at the time.

I took mine to a local shop to get my flywheel put on and they charged me an extra hour for the tight nut they needed to get the size from. That and one of the nuts to the clutch stripped hard.

Poor mechanics.

instantly with a good impact gun, the flywheel even popped right off

ME: "this might be a bitch for the flywheel to come off"

POP!

"hmmm, cool, that was easy!"

well for the manual car taking it somehwere was an option since the engine bay is stripped and all but i dont have all the necessary tools like a engine lift to take out the motor/tranny. So that 12 foot long bar has to work or im shitted on. and i dont want to take apart my motor from the bay and have to reconnect all that **** together again lol

how do you plan on using a 12 foot bar with the car on a jack anyway? theres no way youll have enough clearance to turn a bar that long. just go buy a compressor and an impact gun

The nut is 2 1/8". I got a socket at sears. You might wanna get the 3/4" drive breaker bar to go with it. My 1/2" one broke way before the nut loosened trying to get my flywheel off.

I initially tried bracing it with a metal fence post but the post started bending and eventually bent underneath itself. I had two people and a 6 foot pipe but i still couldn't get enough tourque so i put the engine in the back of a friends car and drove it to a mechanics, he took it off with an impact gun in 5 minutes for $5, I had to bring my own socket though since he only had up to 2".

Don't bother doing the flywheel nut by hand

I had my engine on an engine stand, I had TEN FEET of breaker bar on the socket, and two guys reefing on it

Didn't work

If you absolutely have to do this with hand tools, rent a torch kit and heat up two shanks of the flywheel nut, and it will back off with hand tools very fast

Unfortunately operating a torch, and operating it properly without damaging the nut or the flywheel or blowing something up, requires training.

So, yes, impact gun = kthxbye to the flywheel nut.
