How Big Of An Intercooler Would I Need?
#2
my mechanic insists that a big intercooler is not necissary unless you are stricltey drag racing in which your using the intercooler as a heat sink instead of a radiator.
I'm going to be using a 18.5 x 6 x 3 core on my car with my hybrid, but I'm sure it will cool enought for a full to4 as well. It is a bar and plate type tho so it's a little more effeicent.
my mechanic has built race cars for years and years and years, so I'll take his word on it.
Just think about the stock tmic, people have pushed 300 hp using that alone, just relocating one with the same volume would make it more efficient, and going twice the volume (which is still pretty small) should support upwards of 500 hp.

yah 24x6x3 is close to what the fd guys run as a stock mounted replacement, theres room to go a little taller (9-10") if you want.
mazdadrifter i kinda agree with that, it seems like once the ic is big enough going bigger doesnt really do anything

With end tanks my Spearco is a 27 x 7 x 4".....Its plenty for a T60-1 @ 20psi, I run and my intake temps est. around 35-50C on a 100deg. -F day. There are alot of guys running way to big of IC core. Your water temps will suffer, and I have first hand experience with that and thats Primarily the reason I dropped down in size.. The opening up front is 27" and it fits perfect without having to remove the reinforcement bumper which is also important to me...
