i go all the way till the buzzer tells me to shift, but that's only occassionaly like with a new fresh tank of gas or at the drag strip. otherwise i usually shift between 5500 to 6000, long enough to feel the excitement of turbo power, but early enough to save some gas and engine life.

Ive taken mine to 10,000 before..Ive got an 88 SE as well, with 158,000 miles on it...there is no limit...

you can do that for a bit, but stuff does break. we had a stationary gear come out on us it wasnt pretty. pretty much destroyed the entire motor

How do you know it was 10K? The s4 tachs only go to 8K.

Perhaps he has an aftermarket tach, or something like an SAFC.

Rev a car to 10K RPMs? Many clutch and pressure plates have a sign on the side of the box that says not to rev the engine above a certain RPM. That’s because they can come apart. Exploding clutch components are the reason some racers run with scatter shields or tranny blankets. If a clutch or pressure plate comes apart at 10K without a tranny blanket/scatter shield, there’s a good chance it will come through the bell housing and the floor of the car.

or he could just be a dumbass...

ambassador_josh 05-02-2004 06:20 PM

theres always that possibility...but maybe he had the acceleration and enertia to continue to accel his engine past the redline, rev limiter, and just happened to have an aftermarket tach/safc to see it.

Or he could be running a Bridgeported motor?

I've found that shifting at 7300 works the best on my stock port NA. Its not making anymore power up high but it keeps it high up enough on the next gear. The only place where my car feels like its accelerating is like 5500-7000 rpm https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

Its not like I sat there and floored it for 20 minutes...**** yeah something would break. The only reason I did that was because I had to go to work, and I forgot I left ATF in there, And I didnt have time to sit there and let it burn off, then replace the plugs...So I just revved it to 9-10 to burn it of real quick, then replaced the plugs...I only held it there for about 60 seconds, then dropped it to 6,000 and it quit smoking...I wasn't doing it to be a dumbass...I didnt think it would hurt it, and it didnt, it actually ran 100x better(ATF!!)...I get better gas milage too...

I figured around the 'Fuel' mark(where it says 'Unleaded Fuel Only') is about 9-10,000...
