I have a chance to buy a engine wireing harness and ecu out of a 94 with 25k miles on it. The dude is doing a 3 rotor swap. I can drive the car and do a compression test to make sure the engine is tight.

I want to drop it into my 87TII. I might even wait a few months and do a haltech at the same time.

Has anyone done this swap.

We know that the mounting points are different and aren't sure how to get around it. I think my freshly rebuilt TII tranny will hold up o.k. until I can find a FD tranny.

Anyone done this???

The TII transmission will work fine, but you'll have alot of work to do if you plan on using the FD stock ECU. A standalone ECU would be a better bet. If you can get the engine mounted you'll need to go with a front mount intercooler.

I am just wondering if anyone has actually done this. What other obsticles there are.

I am leaning hard towards a Haltech. I was planning on a FMIC already.

yeah its been done. someone on this site has done it but i cant remember who.

There is a RX-7 Mechanic in town that is known for building roll cages for race cars. He is currently swaping a TII engine into a 1st gen. He built his own cross member and engine mounts.

We have already discussed the possibility of doing this and as he said "Anything is possible". The one advantage we have right now is that we have a FC and FD side by side with their engines out (the FD is my Dads).

So we can make measurements and comparisons very easily.

I am going for it. I will work out how I am getting this sucker in there. If the dude thats here with the FD engine in his FC can give any tips that would be cool.

We are not actually going to do the swap for another month or two.

You just need to make a cradle to hold the back of the motor. Some people just weld some thick steel plates to the engine subframe. My friend made a cradle and bolted it to the frame rails...works really well.

Yeah, that's really the only way to do it.

Does the haltech have knock sensor support?
