Apparently it's all about the tuning, eh?

I get 15mpg almost exactly, every time I've calculated it, on my '86 n/a base. I'm wondering if my O2 sensor is working, considering I make the same mileage now as I did when the O2 wasn't hooked up.

Hey Erik,

Just curious, how are you getting 400 miles per tank? What size gas tank do you have? That is some serious mileage.

My 87 GXL has a 13.9 gal tank. If I got 400 miles on this tank that is almost 29 mpg. That is some serious mileage. The car brand new was rated at 18/25 I believe.

Not doubting you at all. Just curious on how you get such good gas mileage.

Inquiring minds want to know.

i dunno about them, but i have my part throttle maps tuned very lean for specifically that reason, leaner than stock i imagine. This is all done with a fairly precise FJO wideband and i'm always tweaking. Its in the below boost safe range, and i'm finding that even small changes in the A/F translate to large changes in the overall gas mileage.

Took a trip to Tampa across the State recently.

My car at the time had 290RWHP and I run 1600cc secondaries tuned on the rich side both under acceleration and cruising.

Highway I got 17 MPG

Highway/City = 12 MPG

City with lots of BOV action showing off for the locals = 8 MPG

FYI = Open track day at Moroso in West Palm Beach Florida = 4 MPG
