Well put the new tranny, didn't fix the issue, I don't know what the **** is up. Added to that my ******* oil pressure gauge quit working.
Anyhow, still have the very bad clicking when the car is under load, usually going up hill is what triggers it the worst. Wher edo I go from here, it obviously isn't the trany, but I can only feel it in the gear shift. Tranny Mount? |
have you looked at your drive shafts, prop shaft, universals (mos def that) is the car buckin around?
It's a clicking sound? What else have you looked into on this noise other than the tranny?
i dont wanna **** u, sorry
i can't over the internet, but my neighbor friend just got out of the penn. Maybe he could be of some assistance
i can feel it in the gear shifter, I checked the driveshaft, it isn't contacting the car at any point. I am thinking rear end or tranny mount, but I don't feel it in the floor board and no the car doesn't buck or anything.
No vibration in the clutch pedal right? Or any other vibrations for that matter? Also can you tell where the clicking is coming from? Possiblyhave someone listen while you creep in first in a parking lot or something?
are the ujoints in the drive shaft good? if you have a bad one it will do that
mike |
yeah have someon listen, maybe put the car on jacks and "drive" it. those tranny mounts are a bitch huh? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
The problem is the car only does it under load, won't do it in first until I hit about 4,000 RPM. The only place I can feel it is in the shifter and of course I can here it. It won't do it on jack stands cause there isn't any load.
And the oil pressure gauge isn't working, I will play with it some but maybe go manual.

a little strange that it went out after the tranny swap, wondering if I disconnected something.
Got my Dad coming out tonight to take a look at it, maybe he wil have some ideas that I haven't thought of. **** is pissing me off though, oh well :(
The oil pressure sender is fairly close to that long ass starter bolt so its possible it got knocked off or something.
Take it to a dyno and have someone listen while you run it up :bigthumg: |
LOL yea, that would cost money, but I may have to do it. Well I have serisouly been consifdering a manual oil pressure gauge, I have had problems with ostock gauges on pretty much every vehicle I have eer owned LOL. Putting the manual temp and OP in my Jeep was one of the best things I have ever done, prolly do the same in whitey and be safe!
Oh yea I checked the lead it was attached to the sensor, I will mess with it some, then order a real one
are you sure your noise is tranny related? noise is good at transmitting

I remember I had a bad u-joint in another car that was so ******* hard to see that it
had cracked, so obviously only under load was it evident. Maybe have one of your AE pals lend you a driveshaft so you can eliminate that idea. You had this noise from day 1 with the car? |
No it hasn't done it from day one. The tranny was a little shitty, so I figured that was the issue. It started doing it every now and then, then it went to doing all the tiem in any gear under load. It does it exactly like it di with the old tranny, so I have new clutch, pilot and release bearing and new tranny. I looked at the driveline, but of course could feel it so much in the gear shifter I assumed that was the culpret. The only things I can think of would be tranny mount, u-joints or rear end. What did your u-joints sound like? Could you feel it in the gear shifter?
That car was a reverse manual valve body. I felt it more as a vibration in the seat of
the pants. I changed axles because I had a pair of spares and basically went nuts because I had new U-joints in the car for a few weeks before that. I took the driveshaft out and there was the tiniest little crack in the U-joint, changed it out and never had the problem again, the car was stolen on me but that was another story. |
Yea I have been through u-joints in my Jeep like gas. They always vibrate the whole car when they go bad, so I have been thinking it is not the u-joints as I have no vibration at all.
dont ya love pouring all that love and money into your car only to have it stolen a week later.... boomerang alarms here i come
i have seen the mazda u joints only seize up in one joint and one direction before. or maybe you have a bad motor mount and the whole thing moves around enough that the driveshaft hits something? is it a rotation? or like a banging? maybe its the exhaust hitting something?
mike |
Yea I just need to have 2 of the vehicles I own on the road. The power steering is fucked on the 84 and the TPS is fucked as well. The 88 has this issue, I am about 2 minutes from buyign the wife a new car cause I don't need the ******* headaches right now, that would be one less vehicle to deal with. LOL
whats wrong with the ps on the 84? leaks?
mike |
Leaks like a mother fucker.
I am going to add some serious FAQ's when I get unemployed. I have been jotting **** down so I don't leave it out, but I will have the time when I have no job LOL
the pump reseal kit for the gsl-se's is like $35 and its super easy to do, if its the box that leaks; thats another can of worms
mike |
That's prolly my best bet then, where's the best place to get it?
Cough:: and im the one who got yelled at when I said these cars seem to be more
trouble then they are worth:: cough Did I let my inner monologue out? |
mazdatrix, or the dealer, you might be able to get a repackaged dealer one at an autoparts store.
HB40-32-610 is the number. mike |

I had a tiny pin hole in the cooler on my vert, a piece of rubber hose slipped over the hole and a hose clamp later it was fixed. |

I love my 88 and I am not going to sell it, but let's face the 84 I paid $1,000.00 for and have put over 40K on it with oil change and a battery being the only things I have done. But when you get down to needing to put 400 to 500 into a car you paid $1,000 for then you have to look at things.
The 84 is your wife's car?
Yea
She is finishing up her 4 year degree so she prolly puts on 500 miles a week or so.
