I was just wandering if anyone has heard flowmasters on any rx7? I'd like to get a header and just run a straight pipe to the dual flowmasters, since they cancel sound frequencies for legal reasons but still give you decent horsepower. Give me your opinions thanks..

Rob x-7 01-25-2004 03:09 PM

they supposidly sound like crap and wont hold up

Flowmaster themselves say not for use on rotaries

JspecRX7 01-25-2004 03:12 PM

ok, what mufflers do hold up that aren't extremely loud or exspensive.

Rob x-7 01-25-2004 03:19 PM

depends on your definition of loud, or expensive

86se7en 01-25-2004 03:36 PM

i wanted to go with magnaflow for my car, but i dunno...

JspecRX7 01-25-2004 03:52 PM

loud being the usual crackle of a straight through rotary with a header...i just want to tone it down a little. And exspensive being like under 300 for a cat back system.

Rob x-7 01-25-2004 04:04 PM

the dynomax system might be a good bet for under $300

corksport is 300, but its loud

skud_dusty 01-25-2004 04:25 PM

I too was wondering about something like this.

I'd like to have a custom catback made, ending with an Apexi N1 fart cannon, but I want something quiter.

I was wondering about a flowmaster, but if they burn out on rotaries, then no thanks...

Any advice on a resinator and high flow cat combo to keep it quiet?

FiKsE l2X SeVeN Jr 01-25-2004 04:31 PM

racing beat is louder, but not that loud...

mazdadrifter 01-25-2004 04:34 PM

BORLA mufflers fukin own, and in the nopistons store there is a 2nd gen cat back all stainless steel for 370. 1 million mile warranty. That is a solid setup for cheap considering two borla mufflers would cost you that much alone.

and don't do the corksport cat back if your n/a. You WILL be arrested. I had that setup but refused to drive anywhere with it.

thats alot more money then $300

Mazderati 01-25-2004 04:53 PM

I second the thing about Flowmasters being incompatible for use on a rotary motor. I knew a guy that worked for Flowmaster for a while and he said that the only automobile Flowmasters were not supposed to go on were automobiles with rotary engines. Something about the mufflers creating too much back pressure.

You got the borlas? How do they sound?

banzaitoyota 01-25-2004 07:45 PM

Flowmasters DO NOT work, trust me!!!

I removed and installed a cheapo magnaflow, works great

1988RedT2 01-25-2004 08:01 PM

I vote for Borla. They can take the heat. Not too loud on my T2, but I'm sure it'll be louder on an n/a with headers.

JspecRX7 01-25-2004 08:10 PM

How loud are is the N1? Are they dual or are they single?

They are loud with out the silencers on. With the silencers on i'm almost stock sounding.

JspecRX7 01-25-2004 08:25 PM

ok.. i like them a lot.. so i am thinking of a header, run to the stock cat (for state emmisions reasons and sound) to the n1 out would that sound good or would it be loud or sound like **** or what? The reason i have so many questions is because im the only one i know around here with an rx so i dont know what different mufflers sound like.

86se7en 01-25-2004 11:31 PM

banzai how does that magnaflow sound? did it last awhile? im thinking about going with a rb header to straight pipes to magnaflow mufflers...

joe2dmax 01-26-2004 08:52 AM

i got dual magnaflows ( one that look like n1's) and a piece of **** pacesetter header that is good for a little exhaust leak..... its loud as phuck though.. scared driving around tampa on saturday nights....i strongly suggest silencers for this type of mufflers.

Rob x-7 01-26-2004 07:30 PM

i have magnaflows on my jeep, they are quiet at idle and

wake up midrange, not sure how they would sound

on a rotary though.

I have heard the full borla system with a single stock

style converter, and the car was very quiet.

RB sounds the best, I have Borla XR1s on my car, and they

are quite loud.

RX7Aggie 01-26-2004 10:08 PM

i got racing beat

i love it

not that loud, but turbo's aren't that loud anyway

cps87rx7se 01-27-2004 08:53 AM

I've got the Borla setip, and I love it. I had a Flowmaster setup before this, and the sounded like crap, and they flaked away on me. But the Borla setup gave me a decent power gain that I could fell when I jumped on it, and they are quiet, but deep, at idle and normal shifting around town, but when you get on it, they get loud and deep. You should deffinatly go with the Borla catback exhaust. My only regret about this system though, is that I wish I had waited because I paid 500.00, and now they go for 375.00ish. But I will try and get a sound clip up.

I don't have the borla cat back, but from every borla muffler I have heard it has sounded good, not to mention that it will last. That is what they are usinging on the racing rx8's if that gives you any idea.

I'd like to grab that setup, but I'm buying a house and fixing two cars at this time so it's not pheasable.

CCKX13 01-29-2004 10:53 AM

Does anybody know how loud the GReddy cat backs are on a n/a and a strait system and aftermarket headers and even the Apexi dual N1s? If u have that setup how well do they run and whats the aprox life?

Thanks a lot

Cort

Baldy 01-29-2004 12:15 PM

just thought I'd thrown my setup in here

I had an RB header and presilencer, with stock catback. No louder than your average ricer, but really rattly and buzzy. From the presilencer back, I just had 2.5" pipe with 1 magnaflow straight-through muffler put on. Sounds no louder, but a more mellowed tone, more low and less buzz.

I had them on my 1979 rx7 with header way back in the day ( 1991) and they worked fine for years in fact the muffler is still around on another car. Why would'nt they last there is no packing in them.

I said supposidly, and if flowmaster themselves said not to use

them I would just take thier advice.

they are baffled mufflers, so I guess there is potential for problems

there. Maybe they are worried that from the high heat there is the

potential for one of the baffles to break free blocking the muffler's

output. Email flowmaster and maybe they can give the full story?

pengaru 01-29-2004 06:04 PM

there were flowmasters on a NA I picked up in north carolina, it sounded like ass but they werent falling apart.

it had stock manifold and a cat then two flowmasters, sounded like a weed wacker. I suspect if it had no cat and a better exhaust system overall the flowmasters would have been getting alot more abuse, but the system was really ghetto. The Y section was more like a T.

we must have typed at the same time?

cps87rx7se 01-30-2004 08:33 AM

I really dont know how to take the video and patch it into the computer, it someone could help/tell me how to do it, I could try.
