im srry my good friend kevin also gave me a hand in alot of this after a long day of work and sunday hopfully we will pull it out and kevin u crazy shyt ur not supposed to unveal our top secret a/c removal tactics. come on you know you cant talk about the "boom" and us having to run out the garage feelin like we just took a shot of nitrous LOL.

jwteknix 07-16-2006 11:22 AM

well its finally ready to come out today just finished disconnecting downpipe from cat (much easier than disconnecting from turbo), and the transmission crossmember. now all i need to do is wake up my good friend kevin(who was probly up all night)lol and we should have the new engine in, in a few hours. i need to clean up the engine bay a little bit first

jwteknix 07-16-2006 08:18 PM

ok so i lied the new engine isnt in today, but hopefully will be in by next week. finally, woke kevin up this afternoon we picked up the new engine from his garage. then we pulled the engine and transmission out together was pretty easy considering kevin brought over his 3 ton cherry picker. pullled the trans and turbo off of the engine to my surprise kevin said the turbo was in fairly good condition. tomorrow i have my work cut out for me just searched for the auto- manual power steering rack thread will do that along with putting in new engine mount and a through cleaning of the engine bay. if anyone knows of anything i can do to the car while the engine is out let me know

looks like we are both doing the same thing, i too have removed around 100 pounds of useless (well to me useless) crap. It sould really make it easy to work on, clean, and it should run cooler. I am about to remove the electrical tape, and the wire loom from the engine harness and inspect each wire. Does anyone know of a wire wrap that i could use rather than electrical tape to wrap up the wires again, i remember seeing it somewhere but dont remember what its called.I am currently working on polishing everything aluminum on the engine and just cleaning the hell out of the internal and external parts. Id really like to find a way to remount the powersteering pump to cleanup the look of it still atached to the engine, any ideas?

I'm not sure who else sells this stuff, but I ran across it while looking at his block off plates.

yea banazaitoyota also sells that sealing tape, as does summit and a few other places nowadays, great harness wrap.

I';m lettin james get everything organized the way he wants it for now before we throw the motor in. i need to pull off his old flywheel and dismount the turbo from the old manifold (fcuking stripped nut).

then he'll be waiting for his RTek.

everything went rather smoothly.

it *was* a pretty much stock all original 1988 T2 with around 70k miles on it. the previous owner (1 owner car) was a hack of a mechanic so there are lots of little things to focus on before throwing the engine back in.

cant wait to get it running tho....as my yellow car sits and cries about fedex losing it's motor.
