1. The car will rev when sitting still up to high rpms. but when im driving it and i get on it in first. itll go to around 3 grand. then i can sill push it but it sounds nuts then backfires. any suggestions how to fix that?

i also am running an open exhaust manifold. i know my ports arnt actuating but i didnt think that would make my car do that. and all emissons are removed along with tb mod.

2. i am leaking oil from the oil filter side of the engine. im thinking it might be coming from the o rings on the filter stand but is there any other common place for it to come from on that side?

3. my oil smells like gas. i heard it was common but id rather be safe than sorry. is this a big deal?

thanks for the help

My oil leak was from the filter pedestal o-rings. A bit of a pain getting a 10mm wrench on the nuts to remove it, but not too bad.

Gas isn't doing your oil any good. I change mine frequently.

So, under load the engine misfires around 3 grand? Could be inadequate fuel or weak ignition. Try new plugs. Wires okay? Could be "3800 RPM hesitation"? Check grounds.

Good luck!

wires are newer and plugs are brand new.

all my grounds seem good. i redid them when i put my motor in.

i'm just getting a little frustrated. because you can take it past 3800 to past 4500 but the motor sounds nuts then when you let off it gives a good backfire. it looses most power right around 3000

I suspect it may have something to do with your TB mod.

why would the t/b mod make it do that?

A little history is always helpful. Did it always have the problem, or did it start doing it right after you did some work on it?

i put the used "new" motor in with around 60k on it. and yes, it has always done it since i put the motor in. i dont daily the car so in the few times that i have driven it, it has done that.

keep in mind that i have the stock manifold on with no exhaust hooked up. im assuming that backpressure would help the motor.

the problem only happens under load. revs nice while sitting.

good cold idle. stutters a bit when the t stat is opening then clears right up and idles fine again.

Put the exhaust back on, you need back pressure

Yeah, no backpressure means your aux ports are staying closed. They normally open at 3800rpm, and if they're slow due to bad grounding you get hesitation. However, not having them open at all (since no exhaust means no backpressure) means you get fine performance until you hit the time they should be opening. Then it runs rich, has crappy hp, etc etc.

Its easier to jack the car up get a long extension and a swivel... takes alot less time.
