i was on the way to my girlfreinds house when my 1987 turbo II after driving it rather hard began cutting out and the rpm began diving and coming back drasticly. the oil level is about a quart low and i was wondering if it was begining to seize!... on the way home i babied it and had no problems on the way home.

when i got home i noticed my alniator belt was loose. i know that it was tight when i left because i had just put a new one on the other day. any ideas?

you should allways recheck belt tension after running a new belt a little while. if the belt was slipping on the alternator pulley i could have caused a voltage drop in the system

No, a qt. low won't seize it.

As for the loose belt, I'd say the adj. bolt wasn't tight enough.

Please be a little more specific on the cutting out and such.

Cheers

Alt belts loosen after new ones are installed. Just retighten it.

As for the engine cutting out Im guessing vacuum leak.

Thats what happened to my 83 anyway long long ago. Im sure some of you know what line it was. That fitted turd down by the exhaust? Burnt right through it racing a VW Golf.

You didnt do anything crazy like use those cheap silicone hoses from Pepboys or some such thing did you? Those things are awful.

Oooooo aftermarket cone filter on an S4 TII and the plot thickens.

Check your TID for cracks and holes. Especially where the small hose plugs into the back.

That will make all kinds of nastiness happen if their is enough air being sucked through there.

I wouldnt worry about the smog pump so much.

ANOTHER NEW PROBLEM! today after it running very poorly the other day. i started my 87't2 and it hesitated to start till i gave the vehical a little gas. it idles very poorly if at all and pulled throught the rpm range very slowly. the vehical also smoked pretty perfusley wile letting off the gas. after only 4-5 min of runing i noticed my precat was Glowing a very bright orange-red. i was wondering if my precat was cloged. my main cat is hallowed and the air pump is disconected from the cat. please help me out

Yeah glowing cat is a good sign of a clogged cat, and will cause power loss due to the restriction. I would get a Downpipe, or hollow the cat too.
