What does the EGR do?? Would you guys recommend blocking it off? What kind of benifites and loses would result from having it blocked off?

What year is your car?

The EGR recirculates exhaust gas into the intake to lower combustion chamber temps. The S5's don't have the EGR actuator anymore, but the S4 does. I personally recommend blocking it off, in my experiences they don't work anymore anyways, and often introduce a vacuum leak due to the actuators diaphram having cracks from the heat.

yeah scrap it, it most likely does not work, but the benefits of having a working one are better emission and they are supposed to reduce heat in the combustion area by removing some element, atleast thats what i read it does on piston engines. But it does take away a minute amount of power by replacing pure air with recirculated already combusted air. And it might allow a vac leak as pengaru mentioned.
