Specifically, what features of this model/year make it better/worse than other years. I've head of some Gen II's having better motors than others, better brakes, etc.. If you could point me to a FAQ that would be great too.

I found one for sale with a locked motor for $500. I want to build a cheap Stock class auto-x car.

Thanks,

Erik

it would be good. the S5(89-91) has a diff computer than the S4(86-88) so it has more horsepower it is also very rare to find a S5

it's not just the computer, S5 is better in many areas, the engine is improved, higher compression and lighter rotors, the housings are different, it has the VDI intake manifold, I believe the cooling system is changed slightly (the cap locations etc...) theres more that I don't recall right now.

Does this year have 4-piston brakes?

wow...another person that spells their name like me? COOL! haha

all 89-91 non-turbo FC's came with a 160hp engine...whether it was a GTU, GTUs, convertible, or GXL...GXL was more the luxury model with leather and 4-piston caliper brakes. if the body is straight 500 is a pretty good price if its in good shape

good luck man...i've had my 91 gxl for about 4 years...its been such a great car!

I belive(someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the GXL's also have an LSD differential.

I don't think all GXL's have the LSD. My S4 GXL came with one, but a diff I pulled from a 90 GXL in the junk yard was a standard diff.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to check out the car next week. I think if the body is as straight as he says it is I 'll get it. I'll post an update.

Thx again,

Erik

yeah, some Gxls had an LSD, all gxls had 4 piston brakes, I say if the body is straight, then go for it, you can pull the "luxury" crap out, get a nice pinneapple motor, and have fun.
