I was thinking about turbo engines and NA engines and a turbo motor has the SAME HP as a NA till boost right? So 150hp then boost and 200+ hp, and a supercharged engine would be stock + a bit more at idle then continue to climb as the rpms went up? I know it sounds dumb as hell, but I've never quite figured out how that works....

No, the turbo motor without boost has less power cause of the lower compression and 2 less ports (if your talking rotary)

 

Thanx for clearing that up a bit Ronin, so how do 7's usually get the jump on ppl in drag?

Faster RPM progression? Wait that can't make sense as RPM stands for Revolutions Per Minute so two cars at 2000 RPM are spinning the same speed...bleh Now i've confused myself...

I've noticed that too, there's a guy in a 88 n/a that consistently takes mustang gt's, and evo 8 and a few other nice cars off the line, most by a car length or two, doesn't win any, but its just for grins a giggles, but he kills em off the line.

no, same r/t, the rx7 just pulls away through first gear, and beginning of second, then gets raped. lol

 

Depends on how each is racing. If the rx7 is dumping clutch at 4k and the other guy has an auto, yeah hes going to get eaten through 1st...

 

So the rotary's assets are low weight, high redline, smooth power delivery... is it possible that the rotary goes thru it's operating range quicker than most engines?

vavle train loss? rotary engine doesnt have much of that. just a thought and last time i checked a rotarys redline wasnt higher than most other imports...just a rotary loves to rev.
