drop in oil pressure

Yesterday when I was driving my 88 I noticed I would sometimes occur a drop in oil pressure, all the way to zero. The drop would only occur in 4th gear up around 3000 rpms, and it only happened a couple of times. Usually if it started dropping I could step on the brakes and then it would stop and rise back up to 60psi. It idles at 30psi always and anything over around 2000 rpms is about 60 psi. The oil is full and has about 250 miles on it. I was going to change it at 500, but maybe I will dump it today to see if that makes a differece. The oil on the dipstick looks good, doesn't even smell very gassy. I also have the Atkins thermal pellet installed if that makes a difference. This also started two days ago right after I blew the coolant hose right near the oil pressure sender on the rear housing. I am thinking maybe since coolant blew all over it, that might have fouled it in some way. Thanks

Yea, it sounds more like an electrical issue then a motor issue. I've heard from numerous FC guys that the factory oil guage and boost guage always seem to be the two w/ problems...not to mention, aftermarket guages are a good way to feel safer, lol....

I had the same problem. You need to change the oil level sensor, which is located right behind the oil filter. It's attached directely to the engine block. It costs around $35, but it will definitely fix the problem. I had the same problem before. I thought it was a connector problem or something. I keept tapping the **** outta the dash board, but I went and talk to the mechanic at the shop. Sure enough, it was the sensor.
