Different driveshafts for FC?

I just went to the junkyard to get a driveshaft so I could get my shiat back on the road until I can get a Mazdatrix driveshaft or have my original one rebuilt.
Everything looked the same BUT the one I originally had was pretty stout looking (about 3" OD) and the one at the yard was pretty skinny (about 2.25" OD)
The length and everything is the same...what's the difference?
