Well, it's been a while since I've been on, been takin care of my infant son and haven't had time to post, but now I've got a slighlty annoying deal goin' on with my 86 GXL.



The coolant buzzer goes off every once in a while for no apparent reason. It used to seem (like last week) that it was on some sort of schedule, but now it's definitely not. I have checked the coolant both when cold and when hot, and every time, the bastard is full up to the top. Any ideas as to what could be going on? Itt doesn't affect driveability (except the first 2 times it scared the crap out of me, damn annoying thing...) and the temperature never goes above 1/4, as usual.



If I can't find the glitch, I'm going to remove the buzzer itself (but leave the idiot light just in case). Should it come to this, where in the dash is the bastard so I can throw it across some large body of water?

you might wanna have a look at the coolant lever sensors wire, i think if its not grounded the buzzer goes off.

 

I had a similar issue. Except I had a few leaks in my radiator which caused air bubbles to get trapped inside. I didnt even have coolant grippin out. It was that small. Just steam. You might want to keep that buzzer. That buzzer is good for low oil and over reving. Its good to have. My buddy has kind of a similar issue. If you know ur engine isnt over pressurizing the coolant system then i would ground out that sensor. It will not buzz at for that "add coolant". Can serve good and somewhat bad. The bad news you u will have to pay attention to temp guage more often. Even that I hear once that needle rises your engine is destroyed. See how it turns out.

 

had the same prob, the sensor they're talking about is on top of the radiator (center I think) with a single wire coming out of it. I cut and stripped the wire, bolted it to a good ground, and no more noise. not the best fix, but its less annoying.
