No. Holding the release valve will just let the compression whoosh out instead of holding the compression so you can read it. You have to remove the valve so that all the compression can be read.
wouldnt removing the valve result in the same thing.. releasing pressure due to an open port from the missing valve..
pluggin it up after removal is assumed here ...
ive always left the valve on.. just held it to check for even pulses disregarding the value..
and only use the value generated with the schrader valve to determine actual compression number..

A leak down tester will give a more accurate condition of engine.
rotor must be on TDC, and it needs to be done for each face seperately
