the duct between the air box and the turbo, and then the intake gaskets. the hoses dont fail that much, they just get routed wrong

easiest way i know to find a vac leak and it did work on my 87 TII

first start the car and let it idle

if its so bad that it wont idle get a friend to sit in the car with his or her foot ever so litly on the gas to keep it running at a steady rpm

secondly get a can of carb+choke (with a straw on the nozzel) and begine spraying it around the engine bay little bits at a time check the areas that where said earlier first as they will most likly be the sorce of the leak

listen for the engine's rpms to suddenly change

they change because where ever you had just spraied the carb cleaner is where your leak is and it just got sucked into the combustion chamber

this will tell you the general area if not the exact area of the leak the turn off the car let it cool and change what ever needs to be replaced

ive seen both the lower and the upper. the upper tends to get ripped when the intake is pulled off
