The car has been sitting for about 3 years and I checked the fluid level and it was bone dry. The pedal travels to the floor with very very little resistance and does not come up unless you pull it up. So how do you bleed these things?

 

note: you need two people to do this.



what you need:



bleeder kit (container, tubes) from autozone

new bottle of DOT 3 clutch/brake fluid



what to do:



1. fill the clutch fluid reservior until "full"

2. have a friend pump the pedal with their hand, pulling it back and forth 5-8 times, and then hold it down.

3. while they are holding it down, open the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder (next to the transmission). this will let the air out along with some fluid.

4. close the valve.

5. repeat steps 1-4 until almost no air comes out with the fluid.



make sure the bleeder container is full enough with fluid so that in the event that your "friend" lets off the pedal, no additional air will get sucked back into the system. also make sure it doesn't get too full and squirt clutch fluid in your eye or on the paint.



note: brake fluid = paint remover. be carefull for leaks.

 

You can buy a speedbleeder and do it by yourself. I'm not sure what the size is but I'm sure they make one that will fit the slave.

 

true, you can just pump it out yourself with a one man bleeder system, but that costs more, and if you have a wife, friend, girlfriend nearby, that's just as easy.



bleeding 4 brakes...that takes a little more patience and a better friend though

 

So how do you open and close the valve?

 

use a wrench. there is a little hex head valve with a hole in it and a lip to connect a tube to. the valve is on the slave cylinder, which pushes on the clutch fork connected to the clutch

 

flare nut wrench might be best

 

Build a Pressure bleeder for ~25.00 and bleed in about 2 minutes
