[quote name='phinsup' date='Mar 20 2005, 10:05 PM']Too restrictive? They are a strait through stainless muffler, you can look right through the damn mufflers.

Borla is the "good stuff."

I have no doubt my Borla muffler will outlast the car. It has a nice deep sound, and as Phins said, you can look straight through the thing, so I don't think you can get any less restriction. If you feel the pipe size is too small on the bolt-in replacement, just design your own system and let a shop put it in. I''ve got a 3" inlet and outlet on mine.

Weak points? None, unless you think it's too much money.

Strong points? Well-made, durable, minimal restriction. Everything you could ask for in a muffler.

You can surely find cheaper, but I don't think you can find better.

A lot of money for just sound and not much more HP, if any gain. Look at all the cat back systems, you'll notice none of them give much of a HP gain over the factory mufflers.

Back in '88 when I purchased my S4 new, I contacted Borla and asked for a warranty in writing that their catback would deminish the heat build up and more HP. They wouldn't give me a written guarantee.

If you go to the Borla website, and request Turbo II application the following appears:

We do not currently have a part number for your vehicle request.

Don't know why if they are being put on TII's, unless they are the N/A system.

If you're just looking for replacement mufflers and a deeper tone, RB or Borla, is a good choice, but they are NOT going to give you any gains in performance, unless you step up to the RB Turbo back system, or something that is considerably larger in diameter.

Oh, and by the way, most all the aftermarket cat back sytems are straight through. In fact the early HKS system, I could roll a golf ball through the mufflers. They were terrible, junk. In fact the performance deminished after they were installed. I had them on for 2 days and the removed the system.

Louder, but less performace.

Just food for thought, Mariah Motorsports will only use Borla cannisters for their race cars, I think that's a pretty good indictation of quality.

You can get the Borla racing mufflers with a 5" inlet and a 5" outlet. I should hope they would be of good quality and not very restrictive. I bet they aren't using the Borla 2.5" inlet/outlet on their cars.

Advertising also helps to determine which manufacturer they use. I would assume any 5" in/od SS racing muffler could be used on their equipment.

Burns makes a 5" in 6" out ultra light stainless muffler that flow great also.
