I just swapped a 88 non turbo engine to my new 87 gxl. Everything bolted up and fit fine but then when i was done and put new fluids and bleed the clutch and everything i went to start it with the car in neutral but its in gear so when i let the clutch out easy it tries to drive. And when i put it in reverse it will drive in backwards and also there is a horribly loud squeeling coming from somewhere.

Thanks in advance and hopefully its a easy fix i gotta work on friday.

Are you saying that, when the shifter is in neutral, the car acts like it's still in first?

I'd start by taking the top of the shifter off make sure that the bushings aren't hosed and make sure it's actually in neutral.

What's the history on the tranny? Was it in the car before and you just did a motor swap or did you swap motor and tranny? Even if something were totally fucked in the clutch if you've got the car in neutral is should work fine.

Its all running good now. Turns out i missed the plug going to the cold air intake and thats why the engine wouldnt stay running. and as for the tranny problem i just jacked up the back end and popped the clutch with it in first then yanked it back into nuetral and its working fine now.

Thanks for all the advice
