I'm thinking of going with some maybe 15x8 and like +10 offset. I'm not sure how it would look. Have you guys ever seen a nice setup like this? Or even better have any pics of something like this?

it would look odd... the scrub radius would change... not sure how that would change the handling on a rx7

 

What's the scrub radius?

 

is is the lateral dispalce of the wheel as the wheel travles up and down veritcally. It creates a lateral component to the forward component of the wheel causing your car's cornering performance to decrease.



it is basically the side to side movement of the wheels as the wheels travel in an arc defined by the suspension geometry.

 

I once test fitted some zero offset 14x6s on my FC, with 215/60 tires. The tires were outside of the fenders and they would have rubbed if I had driven the car, so I would "try before you buy". It would suck to invest big $ in wide tires and wheels, and have them stick out 2" past the fenders. I guess that is why widebody kits are out there.



*edit* cheers, you really sound like an engineer. I didn't like the idea of having a large scrub radius either, so I went with stock 91 coupe 15x6s after doing a five lug swap. I am totally happy with this choice. The wheels are nearly as light as the 11.5lb vert wheels, and a lot cheaper. For the street, 205 tires with good compound produce a pretty nice skidpad ability - about as hard as I would want to push it w/o a nice place to spin out into.

 

As long as the offset doesn't change by more then 1/4 inch or 6.35 mm +/- from stock 40 mm it shouldn't affect handling that much. Ofcourse anything more then 40 mm and u will run the chance of rubbing against the spring perch.



The 15x6 rim is great, nice and light, lighter then the TII cutters, a good upgrade would be the TII meshies.
